Gujarat Titans beat Rajasthan Royals in the Qualifier 2 game to qualify for the final of the IPL 2026 season. The run chase was steep, but GT batters pulled off a historic batting effort to script a new league record.
IPL has evolved a lot in the last few years, where big scores over 200-220 have become the norm. Apart from league stages, huge totals are also now seen in playoffs, where each game is a knockout, and the pressure is peaking.
The same happened with GT when they were asked to chase 200+ runs in Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2026 season against RR. This time, the Titans were on a mission to produce a miracle, and their successful run chase has scripted history.
On that note, let’s look at the top highest successful run chases in IPL playoff history
5. 189 - GT vs RR, Qualifier 1, 2022
In IPL 2022, the Gujarat Titans and the Rajasthan Royals met in the playoffs for the first time in the Qualifier 1 game. RR batted first and posted 188 runs on the board after Jos Buttler hammered 89 off 56 balls. However, the effort wasn’t enough, as Shubman Gill, Matthew Wade, and Hardik Pandya contributed with 35, 35 and 40 runs, respectively, in the run-chase.
David Miller added the finishing touch with 68 off 38 balls as GT chased down the total in 19.3 overs to make it to the final. That year, GT again met RR in the final and won their maiden IPL title in their debut season itself.

4. 191 - KKR vs CSK, Final, 2012
More than a decade earlier, KKR met CSK in the final of the IPL 2012 season. Batting first, Chennai smashed 190 runs on the board courtesy of Michael Hussey’s half-century and Suresh Raina’s 73 off 38 balls. While CSK thought they had enough on the board, Manvinder Bisla had other plans.
Opening the innings for KKR in the chase, he hammered 89 off 48 balls to set a platform. Jacques Kallis showed his class to play a supportive innings of 69 off 49 balls as the duo guided KKR to a successful chase of 191 runs with 2 balls to spare, and KKR comfortably lifted the title.
3. 200 - KKR vs KXIP, Final, 2014
KKR got another shot at the title in IPL 2014 when they met Kings XI Punjab in the final. KXIP, looking for their maiden trophy, posted 199 runs on the board in the first innings with the help of Wriddhiman Shah’s century (115 off 55 balls).
However, KKR too had a match-winner with them in Manish Pandey, who scored 94 off 50 balls. The game still went down to the wire, where Piyush Chawla finished the game unexpectedly as KKR won the title by accomplishing a record chase with 3 balls to spare.
2. 204 - PBKS vs MI, Qualifier 2, 2015
In IPL 2026, Punjab Kings met Mumbai Indians in the Qualifier 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav scored 44 runs each, while Naman Dhir hammered 37 off 18 balls to propel MI to a huge total of 203 runs.
However, PBKS kept the faith and arrived with intent in the chase. Captain Shreyas Iyer led from the front, scoring 87 off 41 balls, while Nehal Wadhera scored 48 as PBKS successfully completed the chase with 6 balls to spare and qualified for the finals.
1. 215 - GT vs RR, Qualifier 2, 2026
Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals’ playoff affair runs deep. In IPL 2026, again the duo clashed in the Qualifier 2 game. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s majestic knock of 96 guided RR to a strong total of 214 runs. However, GT, with one of the strongest top-order, approached the chase with aggressive intent.
In-form openers Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill stitched a 167-run opening partnership. While Sudharsan scored a half-century, Gill slammed a magical hundred to seal the game. Rahul Tewatia hit the winning runs as GT achieved the highest successful run chase in IPL playoff history.
