The IPL 2026 season has already delivered its fair share of talking points. In the past few editions of the tournament, however, Hindi commentary of the league has increasingly come under the scanner, with a section of fans voicing their opinions on social media.

As debates around the quality and tone of Hindi commentary in the IPL continue to gather momentum, former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has unexpectedly found himself at the centre of a possible controversy.

Harbhajan, who is part of the Hindi commentary panel of the IPL 2026 season, recently took a hostile route while responding to fans on social media amid a growing sense of discontent. With fans targeting several Hindi commentators of the league, the former Indian spinner went on an abusive rant as he aimed at those users questioning the quality of the commentary.

Harbhajan Singh hits back at Hindi commentary critics

Indian cricket fans, particularly on social media, often blur the line between valid criticism and outright insults. Amidst the ongoing IPL 2026 season, several Indian fans are taking to X and sharing hilarious memes at the expense of the league’s Hindi commentators, even targeting the likes of former cricketers like Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag and Aakash Chopra.

Harbhajan seems to have taken the trolling and the insults personally as the legendary Indian off-spinner recently went on an aggressive tirade against the online trolls. Interestingly, the former cricketer even resorted to abuses, in Hindi no less, while responding to the commentary critics on the micro-blogging site.

Responding to a certain fan who described Harbhajan, Sehwag and Aakash Chopra as “clowns”, the multi-World Cup winner jokingly asked the individual to pick one of them as his “new father”.

Harbhajan Singh’s fiery online exchange continues to grab attention

It is worth noting that this is not the first instance of Harbhajan Singh losing his cool on social media in recent times. Not long ago, the former cricketer lambasted ex-Pakistan fast bowler and loudmouth personality Tanvir Ahmed after the latter had made certain controversial remarks about the Indian spinner.

Moreover, the 2011 World Cup winner also took a jibe at Pakistan cricket experts like Mohammad Amir for calling Indian opener Abhishek Sharma a “blind slogger”. A few days ago, he even taunted former teammate and ex-India captain MS Dhoni, alleging that the CSK legend only came out in front of cameras at the Wankhede Stadium’s VIP Lounge once India’s win was secured against England in the semifinal of the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup.

Harbhajan Singh contracted by BCCI

Apart from his usual commentating stints, Harbhajan was also recently appointed by the BCCI to work at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. As per reports earlier this month, the former cricketer linked up with ex-teammate VVS Laxman, who is currently serving as a senior member of the centre.

Harbhajan was appointed to serve a four-day training camp with three of India’s next bunch of finger-spinners, Tanush Kotian, Himanshu Singh and Mohit Redkar.
