The Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) finally came to an end, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) lifting the trophy for the second time in their history. It was a memorable season filled with outstanding individual performances, and remarkable team efforts. 

Players from all ten franchises delivered several unforgettable moments that kept fans entertained throughout the tournament.

At the same time, not every player managed to perform according to expectations. While some stars enhanced their reputation, others struggled to make an impact. 

As a result, several experienced cricketers may find it difficult to secure a place in the next IPL auction. Here are five players who may have played their final IPL match.

Players Who Have Played Their Last IPL Match

1. Karun Nair

Karun Nair entered IPL 2026 with hopes of building on his previous season. The 34-year-old batter was bought by Delhi Capitals for ₹50 lakh and was expected to add experience to the middle order.

In IPL 2025, Nair had a respectable campaign, scoring 198 runs in eight innings. Therefore, many believed he could once again contribute valuable runs for the franchise. However, things did not go according to plan in IPL 2026.

Nair managed only 18 runs in two innings and failed to make a meaningful impact. In addition, his fielding performances also came under scrutiny. Whenever opportunities were provided, he struggled to convert them into significant contributions.

Why this might be Karun Nair's last IPL match

Karun Nair will be 35 years old by the time IPL 2027 arrives. Furthermore, Delhi Capitals are likely to reassess their squad and focus on younger players.

Modern T20 cricket demands aggressive batting and adaptability. Unfortunately, Nair's recent performances have not matched those requirements.

As franchises continue investing in young talent, Nair may find it difficult to attract bidders in the next auction. Consequently, IPL 2026 match against CSK could prove to be his final appearance in the tournament.

2. T Natarajan

T Natarajan has been one of most reliable left-arm pacers in IPL in recent years. Delhi Capitals invested heavily in him, signing him for ₹10.25 crore ahead of IPL 2026. Naturally, expectations were very high.

Initially, Natarajan showed signs of promise. However, his performances gradually declined as the season progressed. By the end of the tournament, he had picked up only five wickets in ten innings while maintaining an economy rate of 11.18.

Interestingly, the left-arm seamer went wicketless in six consecutive matches. Consequently, Delhi Capitals were forced to rethink their bowling strategy. Eventually, the franchise dropped him from the playing eleven as they searched for better options.

Why this might be T Natarajan's last IPL match

Natarajan will turn 36 next year, and fitness has remained a concern throughout his career. In addition, franchises are increasingly looking for younger fast bowlers who can serve the team for multiple seasons.

Since IPL teams often prioritize long-term investments, Natarajan could face stiff competition at the auction table. If Delhi Capitals decide to release him, there is a possibility that he may go unsold. Therefore, IPL 2026 may have marked the end of his IPL journey.

3. Anrich Nortje

South African speedster Anrich Nortje was signed by Lucknow Super Giants for ₹2 crore. Although he has been known for his express pace and wicket-taking ability, injuries once again affected his campaign.

Nortje played only one match in IPL 2026 and failed to take a wicket. Unfortunately, an injury midway through the tournament forced him to return home early. As a result, LSG could not fully utilize his services.

This was not an isolated incident either. In the previous season, while representing Kolkata Knight Riders, Nortje featured in only two matches and picked up two wickets at a high economy rate.

Why this might be Anrich Nortje's last IPL match

Availability is one of the most important factors in franchise cricket. Teams invest heavily in overseas players and expect them to be available throughout the season.

In Nortje's case, recurring injuries have become a major concern. Moreover, overseas slots are extremely valuable, and franchises often prefer players who offer reliability and consistency. 

With several exciting fast bowlers emerging around the world, teams may look elsewhere during future auctions.

Therefore, there is a strong possibility that IPL 2026 could be Nortje's final appearance in the league.

4. Trent Boult

Trent Boult has been one of the most successful overseas fast bowlers in IPL history. The New Zealand star has represented multiple franchises and has consistently delivered match-winning performances over the years.

Ahead of IPL 2026, Mumbai Indians purchased Boult for ₹12.50 crore. However, the season did not unfold as expected. The experienced left-arm pacer managed only two wickets in five matches and struggled to make his usual impact.

Furthermore, Mumbai Indians made several tactical changes during the tournament. As a result, Boult found himself spending more time on the sidelines. Players such as Corbin Bosch were given opportunities, while Boult occasionally did not complete his full bowling quota.

Why this might be Trent Boult's last IPL match

At 36 years of age, Boult is entering the final stages of his professional career. Although his achievements remain exceptional, franchises often look ahead and prepare for the future.

Mumbai Indians may decide to release him in order to free up funds and rebuild certain areas of the squad. Similarly, other teams could target younger overseas pacers who offer long-term value. For that reason, IPL 2026 may turn out to be Boult's final season in the competition.

5. Harshal Patel

Harshal Patel has enjoyed a remarkable IPL career and has established himself as one of the league's most successful wicket-takers. 

Notably, Sunrisers Hyderabad retained him for ₹8 crore ahead of IPL 2026. Unfortunately, he was unable to replicate his previous success. Across five appearances, Harshal went wicketless and recorded an economy rate of 10.82.

Consequently, SRH began making changes to their bowling combination in search of improved results. His struggles mirrored the team's overall bowling issues during the season.

Why this might be Harshal Patel's last IPL match

Harshal Patel will be 35 years old by the next IPL season. Although he performed well in IPL 2025, taking 16 wickets in 13 innings, his form dipped significantly in 2026.

SRH might choose to revamp their squad after an underwhelming campaign. Furthermore, teams at the auction often prefer players who are either in peak form or have long-term potential.

Given these circumstances, Harshal could find it challenging to secure another IPL contract. Therefore, IPL 2026 may have been his final outing in the tournament.
