The confusion appears to have stemmed from the honours Samson received after India’s World Cup victory. He was felicitated by Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar and later met Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
During the ceremony, Samson was presented with traditional gifts, including a shawl, a kasavu mundu, an idol of Lord Padmanabhaswamy, and the autobiography of Sachin Tendulkar.
These honours were symbolic and cultural, meant to recognise his achievements and contributions in the T20 World Cup 2026.
The Governor praised Samson’s journey, calling him an inspiration for the youth and highlighting his role in bringing pride to Kerala. Samson, in response, expressed gratitude and credited his success to hard work and faith.

Meanwhile, Samson is now gearing up for the upcoming IPL season, where he is set to play for CSK after being traded from the Rajasthan Royals.
Looking at Samson's IPL stats, he has played for two franchises (DC and RR). The star player has played 177 matches and scored 4704 runs at an average of 30.94 and a strike rate of 139.04. In IPL 2025, Sanju played in 9 matches and made 285 runs at an average of 35.62 and a strike-rate of 140.39.
