Siddharth Joon is slowly turning himself into one of the most exciting young batting prospects in the Delhi Premier League. The 20-year-old wicketkeeper-batter has been grabbing attention with his fearless approach at the top of the order and has shown that he can take apart bowling attacks within the first few overs.
Representing Central Delhi Kings in both the 2025 and 2026 editions of the DPL, the left-handed batter has made significant statements with the bat. His latest performance has put him firmly on the radar of teams that could be looking for an Indian top-order batter ahead of the IPL 2027 auction.
Who is Siddharth Joon? The New Berserk Batting Talent In Town
Joon produced a sensational knock against North Delhi Strikers in the 28th T20 of DPL 2026 on August 16. Chasing 151, Central Delhi Kings raced to 151/2 in just 9.3 overs, with Joon smashing 76 runs from only 24 balls and a 14-ball fifty. His innings included six fours and eight sixes, giving him an extraordinary strike rate of 316.67.
He opened the innings, took the initiative from the first ball and formed a devastating partnership with Yash Dhull, who himself smashed 69 off 24 deliveries.
Siddharth Joon's overall DPL 2026 campaign has also been impressive. He has accumulated 267 runs in eight innings at an average of 38.14 and a staggering strike rate of 217.07.
Before the 76-run blitz, he had already scored an 83 off 34 balls against New Delhi Tigers, meaning his two biggest knocks of the season have come at strike rates well above 200.
With an explosive batting game, wicketkeeping ability and the flexibility to operate at the top of the order, Joon could be an intriguing Indian option for IPL franchises. Here are three teams that could target the youngster ahead of IPL 2027.
1. Delhi Capitals
Delhi Capitals could be one of the most logical destinations for Siddharth Joon, particularly because of the combination of their wicketkeeping and opening-batting requirements.
Delhi have already made a significant move by bringing Rishabh Pant into their setup, making him their primary wicketkeeping option. However, their opening combination has not been completely settled during IPL 2026.
Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul have largely been used as the preferred opening pair, while Abishek Porel has also provided Delhi with an option at the top of the order. Porel has impressed in that role, striking at 140.81 in IPL 2026, and has shown that he can step into the opening slot when required.
However, Porel's ongoing off-field legal controversy could create uncertainty around his availability for IPL 2027. That could potentially force Delhi to look for another Indian wicketkeeper-batter who can provide cover at the top of the order.
This is where Joon becomes an interesting candidate. The 20-year-old can be developed into an aggressive Indian opener who can provide an alternative to Nissanka.
He can be an Indian backup opener who gives the franchise another aggressive option alongside KL Rahul, while his wicketkeeping ability can also become valuable if Rahul is unavailable or if Delhi need additional cover behind the stumps.

2. Lucknow Super Giants
Lucknow Super Giants could also emerge as a serious contender for Siddharth Joon because of the flexibility he would bring to their batting combination.
LSG experimented with several players at the top of the order during IPL 2026. As many as six batters were tried as openers at different stages, including Rishabh Pant and Arshad Kulkarni, while Ayush Badoni was also given an opportunity to open.
Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram, however, remained the most regular opening combination for the franchise. The problem with that combination is the overseas-player equation.
LSG also have a quality wicketkeeper-batter in Josh Inglis, who scored 266 runs from just five matches during IPL 2026. But Joon could offer something different because he is an Indian wicketkeeper-batter.
If LSG use two overseas batters at the top of the order, they immediately consume two of their overseas slots. Signing Siddharth Joon would give them the option of introducing an Indian opener into the playing XI and freeing up an overseas slot for another department.
That could allow LSG to strengthen their middle-order, all-rounder group or bowling attack without compromising their opening combination.
Joon would also provide wicketkeeping cover after Pant's exit. While he would obviously need to make the transition from domestic T20 cricket to the IPL, his aggressive approach makes him an intriguing long-term project for the Sanjiv Goenka-owned franchise.
3. Kolkata Knight Riders
Kolkata Knight Riders could be another franchise keeping a close eye on Siddharth Joon, although their reason for targeting him would be slightly different.
During IPL 2026, KKR experimented with Finn Allen, Ajinkya Rahane and Tim Seifert at the top of the order. The combination of Rahane and Finn Allen was among the options used to give KKR greater stability and aggression during the powerplay. However, Rahane has now retired, leaving KKR with a potential opening slot to address ahead of IPL 2027.
This could bring Joon into the picture. Unlike Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants, KKR do not necessarily need Joon primarily for his wicketkeeping ability. They already have several wicketkeeping options, including Tejaswi Dahiya, Tim Seifert and Luvnith Sisodia.
Instead, Joon could be targeted specifically as an explosive Indian opener. Pairing him with Finn Allen could give KKR a completely different look at the top of the order. Allen brings power and aggression from the outset, while Siddharth Joon's DPL numbers suggest that he is equally comfortable attacking from ball one.
More importantly, Joon's Indian status would allow KKR to preserve their overseas slots for other positions. Rather than using an overseas player to replace Rahane at the top, KKR could invest in an Indian youngster and retain greater flexibility while constructing the rest of their XI.
Notable Mentions- Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians will not be looking out for an opener or a wicketkeeper-batter for the next season, however, with their reputed scouts known for their talent hunting, the franchises might eye the talent to nourish him later for their future.
