Pakistan all-rounder Khushdil Shah, who has been trying to get back into the national team since 2025, had a brain-fade moment during the Pakistan Gold vs Pakistan Whites National Champions Cup 2026 match at the Multan Cricket Stadium on August 16.
Representing the Whites, Khushdil Shah came in to bat at number six to shoulder the responsibility that the top order had failed to handle. However, he missed the cue completely when a delivery from Faisal Akram bamboozled him into making a decision that he would later regret.
Khushdil Shah makes a brainfade error to gift his wicket
As Khushdil took guard, the Whites were already in trouble in the 22nd over, having lost four wickets for just 65 runs. Khushdil was trying to salvage the collapse alongside Hasan Nawaz, using his experience to bat in crunch situations. However, Khushdil's concentration deserted him when he fumbled and gave away an easy wicket to Pakistan Gold.
As Faisal delivered a ball that moved sharply towards the left-handed batter, Khushdil tried to chop it towards the off side but failed to do so and mistimed the shot.
Due to the mistiming, the ball took the bottom edge of the bat and dropped close to him before going past the stumps towards the wicketkeeper. However, Khushdil Shah failed to notice the direction in which the ball had gone. He thought about taking a quick single to add to the team's run tally.
Unfortunately, Hasan Nawaz, who was at the non-striker's end, also failed to signal to him that he should stay inside his crease. Khushdil, seemingly unaware of what had happened, stepped two paces out of his crease and was quickly stumped by wicketkeeper Mohammad Akhlaq, gifting his wicket to Pakistan Gold.

Khushdil frustrated as Pakistan Whites fall in disarray
Khushdil went back to the pavilion looking extremely frustrated with his performance and the brain fade. He was seen punching his bat with his hand and slamming it against his pads before walking off the field.
The wicket added to the despair of the Whites, who later managed to reach 147/6 at the end of 36 overs. Saad Masood was also dismissed in the 30th over, leaving the Whites reeling at 110/6. Hasan Nawaz, with his brilliant half-century, was the only batter anchoring the team's innings.
How have Khushdil Shah's recent performances been?
Shah last played for Pakistan in September 2025 in a T20I against the UAE during the Men's T20 Asia Cup. Since then, Khushdil has struggled to find a place in the national team, although he has continued to feature in domestic cricket.
He featured in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy in 2025 and also took part in the Bangladesh Premier League, followed by the National T20 Cup 2026. He also played for the Karachi Kings in the PSL 2026. Among all these tournaments, his most noticeable performances came in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and the National T20 Cup.
In the PSL, playing for the Karachi Kings, he averaged a meagre 15.57 across nine matches and picked up only eight wickets while conceding runs at an economy rate of 9.67.
In the National T20 Cup, Khushdil Shah managed just one wicket in the two matches in which he bowled, while scoring only 64 runs in three innings at an average of 21.33.
