India Women's T20 World Cup 2026 SWOT Analysis
Strengths of India
1) T20 batting depth:
India’s batting contingent is led by Harmanpreet Kaur, who is leading the Women in Blue for the fifth time at the tournament.
The skipper will be supported in the batting lineup by key players in Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh. In the finishing role, wicketkeeper-batter Richa will be supported by Bharti Fulmali, who is in the form of her life, and Deepti Sharma, known for her versatility.
2) An elite spin bowling department:
India’s spin department for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 is anchored by the primary trio of Shreyanka Patil, Radha Yadav, and Shree Charani, heavily supported by seasoned all-rounder Deepti Sharma.
The spin attack has been specifically tailored to exploit the conditions in England and Wales for the tournament.
3) Packed with young guns:
The 15-member Indian squad features an exciting blend of seasoned veterans and talented youngsters, heavily backed by their exposure in the Women's Premier League (WPL). The squad includes exciting debutants making their first appearance at an ICC T20 World Cup.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur has specifically credited the WPL for Unearthing fearless new talent and preparing them for high-pressure international stages.
Weakness
1) Lack of experience at the biggest stage:
This will be the maiden appearance for four players in the squad, Bharti Fulmali, Nandani Sharma, Shree Charani and Kranti Gaud, who will be getting their first taste of an ICC Women's T20 World Cup.
While in hindsight, this may appear to be a good sign for the national team, it also highlights a lack of international experience, particularly in its fast bowling and lower-order batting. Thus, the senior core will need to carry the bulk of the pressure.

2) Match-winner Amanjot Kaur and Kashvee Gautam’s absence:
Amanjot Kaur had played an integral all-rounder role in helping India capture their maiden Women's ODI World Cup title in late 2025.
However, she was ruled out of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 due to a severe back injury that is expected to keep her out of cricket for four to five months.
Amanjot’s reliable lower-order finishing ability and pac-bowling versatility had become a much-needed and sought-after component of India’s white-ball balance.
In Kaur’s absence, Kashvee Gautam was expected to fill the void. However, the Chandigarh all-rounder also missed the tournament due to a right knee injury that required surgery.
Opportunity for Indian Women
Back-to-back ICC titles:
After years of near misses and heartbreak on the biggest stages, India finally broke through by securing their maiden senior women’s ICC title with a 50-over World Cup win.
Thus, fresh off their historic ODI World Cup triumph, Harmanpreet Kaur-led India is eyeing back-to-back ICC trophies at the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. The 15-member squad, named by the BCCI in their quest for a maiden T20 global title, looks very balanced.
Threat
Lack of reliable all-rounders:
The lack of reliable pace-bowling all-rounders is India’s biggest vulnerability. With Amanjot Kaur and Kashvee Gautam sidelined, the team lacks seamers who can reliably contribute with the bat down the order.
Notably, Arundhati Reddy remains the primary pace-bowling all-rounder, putting immense pressure on her to consistently deliver with both bat and ball throughout the tournament.
