Chennai Super Kings are undergoing major changes, and it seems they will revamp a lot after their disappointing back-to-back seasons. To begin with, they have started with changes in the coaching staff, as Stephen Fleming and CSK have mutually parted ways after 18 years.

Meanwhile, former Delhi Capitals head coach Hemang Badani is the frontrunner and is expected to join the franchise, as per TOI reports. Notably, if Hemang Badani is appointed, he is expected to make major changes to the squad in order to build the best possible team and push for CSK's sixth IPL title.

So, in this article, let's take a look at the players Hemang Badani might release ahead of the IPL 2027 mini auction.

CSK Players Hemang Badani Might Kick Out After Appointment

Spencer Johnson

While Spencer Johnson has found success in the T20 format, the pacer has not enjoyed good outings in the IPL. Notably, this year for CSK, Spencer Johnson replaced Nathan Ellis at the base price of ₹1.5 crore after joining the squad late due to a back injury.

Moreover, he was given opportunities in three matches. However, he ended the season with just two wickets.

Notably, with him failing to make much impact for the franchise and with the expected arrival of Hemang Badani, there is a chance that Spencer Johnson might not be retained, as CSK already have pace options like Khaleel Ahmed, Matt Henry and Nathan Ellis.

Therefore, due to his injury-prone body and underwhelming performances in the league, Spencer Johnson might miss out on retention.

Prashant Veer

Prashant Veer might also find his way out of the Yellow Army as the five-time IPL champions are expected to undergo a major overhaul.

Bought for whopping ₹14 crore along with Kartik Sharma, there were high hopes for his explosive abilities. However, Prashant didn't get many opportunities to showcase his potential, and even when he did, he couldn't deliver his best. During the season, he scored 90 runs in five innings at a strike rate of 134.33.

Meanwhile, Prashant was hardly used with the ball. In the only innings in which he bowled, he conceded 25 runs.

With a below-par season and limited impact, it is expected that he could be among the players released. It is also important to note that Prashant is unlikely to fetch such a high amount in the next auction, and Super Kings could instead look to buy him back at a lower price rather than continue with an expensive contract that limits their flexibility.

Shreyas Gopal

Shreyas Gopal might also be one of the players who could be shown the exit door by CSK. Although the 32-year-old did not get a chance to feature in IPL 2026, he has not had an impressive run in the tournament in recent seasons either.

The last time he played in the IPL was in 2024, when he picked up three wickets in three matches for Mumbai Indians.

Overall, he has taken 52 wickets in 52 IPL matches at an economy rate of 8.16.

Moreover, with CSK already having several spin options, including Akeal Hosein, Noor Ahmad, and Rahul Chahar, they could instead look to strengthen their middle order, which remained one of their weak areas after the IPL season.
