In a major development, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have announced that Stephen Fleming is no longer the head coach of the franchise.
Notably, the decision comes after a disappointing IPL 2026 season. CSK had a poor campaign this year. The five-time IPL champions finished 8th on IPL points table, winning only four of their 14 league matches.
Although there were reports that the franchise could make changes after IPL 2026 season, the announcement has now made it official.
Stephen Fleming Parts Ways With CSK
On Monday morning, July 13, CSK released an official statement confirming that Stephen Fleming and the franchise have mutually decided to part ways after working together for 18 years.
Notably, the former New Zealand star had been one of the longest-serving coaches in IPL history and played a key role in making CSK one of the most successful teams in the tournament.
Stephen Fleming Breaks His Silence After 18 Years
Meanwhile, after the announcement, Stephen Fleming broke his silence after 18 long years with CSK.
"Eighteen years is a lifetime in sport, and I leave with nothing but gratitude. My time with Chennai Super Kings has been the privilege of my coaching career. I am proud of everything we have achieved.”
"Together, we celebrated unforgettable victories, overcame difficult moments, and built memories that will stay with me forever. CSK will always be close to my heart, and I will be cheering the team on for years to come," Stephen Fleming said.

CSK Management Thanks Stephen Fleming
Notably, KS Viswanathan, Managing Director of Chennai Super Kings, praised Fleming for his contribution to the franchise. He said that Fleming helped shape the team's identity from the very beginning.
"From the earliest days of this journey, Fleming helped define not just how we played, but what we wanted to be as a franchise.
He built a culture rooted in consistency, humility, and putting the team first. His ability to understand people and bring out the best from individuals across the team has been one of his greatest strengths," he said.
Stephen Fleming's Memorable 18-Year Journey With CSK
It is worth mentioning that Fleming first joined CSK as a player during the inaugural IPL season in 2008. However, in 2009, he took over as the team's head coach and began one of the most successful coaching spells in IPL history.
Since then, Fleming worked closely with MS Dhoni and played a key role in building CSK into one of the league's most successful franchises.
Under his regime, the team won five IPL titles and two Champions League T20 trophies. Moreover, CSK qualified for the IPL playoffs 12 times and reached the IPL final on 10 occasions, the most by any team during his tenure.
