The IPL 2027 auction is still some time away, although the trade window has already become one of the biggest talking points.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are reportedly in discussions as both franchises look to rebuild their squads after disappointing IPL 2026 campaigns. LSG had a forgettable season as they finished at the bottom of the points table with 4 wins. Meanwhile, CSK also failed to qualify for the playoffs and ended the season in 8th place.

LSG And CSK Looking To Revamp Their Squads

According to reports by The Times of India, LSG have already approached CSK for a trade involving wicketkeeper-batter Urvil Patel in exchange for veteran pacer Mohammed Shami.

Besides that reported proposal, here are 3 other player swaps that could benefit both franchises ahead of IPL 2027.

Mukul Choudhary For Urvil Patel

One of the interesting trade options could be Mukul Choudhary moving to CSK, while Urvil Patel heads to LSG.

  • How LSG can benefit: Although parting ways with Mukul Choudhary would not be an easy decision, LSG could still come out stronger if they receive Urvil Patel in return. With Rishabh Pant leaving the franchise, LSG now needs a wicketkeeper who can also play attacking cricket.
  • Urvil Patel fits that role perfectly. Notably, he is an aggressive batter who can play at top of the order or in middle order depending on the team's needs. Moreover, his wicketkeeping skills give LSG another important option behind the stumps.
  • How CSK can benefit: On the other hand, CSK might need a reliable finisher if Shivam Dube is also traded before the next season.
  • In that case, Mukul Choudhary could become a valuable addition to CSK squad. Bought by LSG for ₹2.30 crore, Mukul impressed with his powerful hitting in IPL 2026. He scored 170 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 141.66, proving that he can accelerate during the death overs. Therefore, he could strengthen CSK's lower middle order.

Prince Yadav For Khaleel Ahmed

Another possible trade could see young pacer Prince Yadav move to CSK, while experienced left-arm quick Khaleel Ahmed joins LSG.

  • How LSG can benefit: LSG's pace attack lacked consistency throughout IPL 2026. Therefore, bringing in an experienced bowler like Khaleel Ahmed could solve that problem.
  • Even though Khaleel missed IPL 2026 season due to injury, his IPL record remains impressive. He has picked up 91 wickets in 76 innings and has the experience to lead a bowling attack. As a result, Khaleel Ahmed could become an important figure in LSG's rebuilding plans.
  • How CSK can benefit: Meanwhile, Prince Yadav enjoyed a breakthrough IPL 2026 season. The young pacer scalped 16 wickets in 14 innings while maintaining an economy rate of 8.82.
  • Notably, CSK's pace department struggled due to injuries and not to forget, the Chepauk pitch has also started offering more assistance to pacers than in previous years. Therefore, Prince Yadav could provide the wicket-taking ability that CSK have been searching for.

Ayush Badoni For Prashant Veer

Another trade that could work for both teams is Ayush Badoni moving to CSK in exchange for Prashant Veer.

  • How CSK can benefit:  As mentioned above, CSK are expected to look for a dependable finisher who can also contribute in multiple departments. Notably, Ayush Badoni offers exactly that. He is a fearless middle-order batter, can clear the boundary consistently and also bowls handy off-spin.
  • How LSG can benefit: Meanwhile, Prashant Veer, who was bought for a whopping ₹14.2 crore, could be a strong addition to LSG's middle order if the franchise decides to revise its salary structure through a trade. Notably, Prashant is well known for his power-hitting and also provides another bowling option. Therefore, LSG could use him as a multi-dimensional player while reshaping their squad for IPL 2027.
