Mukul Choudhary is an emerging Indian wicketkeeper-batter who represents Rajasthan in domestic cricket and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Choudhary is regarded as one of the most exciting young prospects in Indian cricket thanks to his aggressive batting style and sharp wicketkeeping skills.
He first gained national attention through impressive performances in India’s Under-19 circuit, including the ICC U-19 World Cup, before transitioning into senior domestic cricket. His rapid rise continued in December 2025, when LSG secured his services for INR 2.6 crore at the IPL 2026 auction, marking a major milestone in his career.
Mukul Choudhary’s Early Life and Background
Mukul Choudhary was born and raised in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, in a family that strongly encouraged his sporting ambitions. His father, Dalip Kumar Choudhary, played a crucial role in shaping his cricket journey and supported his early training.
Interestingly, Choudhary did not begin his career as a wicketkeeper. During his early academy days at Aravali Cricket Academy, he was primarily a medium-fast bowler. However, when his team needed a wicketkeeper, he volunteered to take up the role—an unexpected switch that ultimately transformed his career.
As a young cricketer, Choudhary idolized MS Dhoni, and he continues to model aspects of his wicketkeeping technique and finishing ability on the legendary Indian captain.
Mukul Choudhary’s IPL Career
Mukul Choudhary’s breakthrough moment arrived at the IPL 2026 auction, where he was signed by Lucknow Super Giants for INR 2.6 crore. The bidding attracted significant attention, with multiple franchises reportedly interested in securing the young wicketkeeper-batter before LSG eventually won the contest.
On the same day as the auction, Choudhary underlined his potential by scoring an impressive 54 off 28 balls in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, highlighting his ability to perform under pressure.
Although Choudhary’s IPL debut came against Delhi Capitals, his breakthrough moment was against Kolkata Knight Riders, where he showcased nerves of steel and finished off the game in the final over just like idol, MS Dhoni.
