Tom Bruce had quietly built a reputation as one of the most consistent middle-order batters across formats in New Zealand's domestic cricket before switching nationalities and becoming a core part of the Scotland national team. Born in 1991, Bruce’s cricketing journey took off through the domestic circuits, where his blend of power-hitting and composure under pressure made him a standout performer for Central Districts in New Zealand.
A right-handed batter and occasional right-arm medium pacer, Bruce made his first-class debut in 2015 and soon established himself as a vital figure for the Stags. His breakout season came in the 2015-16 Super Smash, where his explosive stroke play earned him national recognition and a maiden call-up to the New Zealand T20I side in early 2017 for a home series against Bangladesh. In that series, he scored a brisk, unbeaten 59 in Mount Maunganui, signalling his ability to adapt to international intensity.
In domestic cricket, the Nelson-born cricketer has been a pillar for Central Districts, captaining the side and guiding younger talents. His leadership and consistency have seen him feature prominently in the Plunket Shield and Ford Trophy over the years.
Later, he even played in England's Vitality Blast and Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) tournaments. However, it was in mid-2025 that he made the decision to leave New Zealand and join the Scottish cricket team. He qualified to play for the country on the back of his Edinburgh-born father. In August 2025, he made his ODI debut for Scotland against Canada.
