Often misrecognized as Benjamin Stokes, Ryan Stevenson has been representing Hampshire in all formats since making his debut in 2015. He is a right-arm pacer and a lower-order pinch-hitter, who has been a valuable asset for his county over the years.
Born in Devon, Stevenson spent the early parts of his career in minor counties at Finchampstead and also played for Torquay Cricket Club. He was spotted by Hampshire’s Director of Cricket - Giles White - who offered him a trial at Hampshire to play Second XI cricket.
The seamer soon impressed in a handful of second XI games, before earning a maiden call-up for the first team in 2015.
The Devon-born initially signed a one-year contract with contract to make his Championship debut against Durham. In the following season, he signed a new three-year extension deal, making his List-A and T20 debut before he got affected by a bad back.
A long-term back injury limited Stevenson's involvement throughout the 2017 campaign, but Stevenson bounced back in the next season.
In 2018, the pacer had an impressive T20 and second XI summer at Ageas Bowl. He continued with another positive 2019 campaign for the Second XI where he led the bowling attack in all formats.
Stevenson has been leading Hampshire across all formats and has been a whole new bowler, since returning from the back problem. However, his main aim would be to win big tournaments for Hampshire and earn the Three Lions batch sooner or later.
