Prabath Jayasuriya Profile, Career & Stats

Neketh Gedara Roshan Prabath Jayasuriya, commonly known as Prabath Jayasuriya is a quality slow left-arm orthodox, also a decent lower-order batsman. He loves bowling like an old-school spinner who believes in flighting the ball and then purchases turn off the surface.

Born in Matale, Jayasuriya has studied at Christ Church College and Colombo’s Lumbini College. He has represented Colts Cricket Club and Sinhalese Sports Club. While he has played for various districts ranging from Dambulla, Kandy and Galle. The spinner has also provided services to Jaffna Stallions and Bangla Tigers in franchise league cricket. 

The Matale-born first came in the domestic circuit back in 2011, when he represented the Colts in the Premier Limited Over Tournament Tier B. The following year, the spinner received the honours to make his First-Class debut during the Premier League Tournament in February 2012. Later that year, he made his T20 debut in the local T20 tournament. 

The spinner went through the grind in domestic circles for seven years, before earning the opportunity to make his ODI debut. In August 2018, Jayasuriya played his maiden ODI at Dambulla. He later played another match on that debut - before getting dropped from the national team - as he did not make any noteworthy appearance. 

In March 2021, he was part of the Sinhalese Sports Club team that won the SLC Twenty20 Tournament, which won the tournament for the first time since 2005. A couple of months later, he was named in the SLC Greys team for the SLC Invitational T20 League. The spinner just needs a brilliant domestic season and some backing from the national selectors, before cementing his place at the highest level.
