Harry Tector is an Irish all-rounder who has been representing his national side since 2019 and is a centrally contracted player since 2020. The all-rounder is a quality middle-order batsman and equally brilliant off-break bowler.
The all-rounder has emerged from the 2016 U-19 World Cup and led his national side in the 2018 Junior World Cup. He finished the latter tournament as Ireland’s highest wicket-taker to eight scalps.
Post the 2018 event, the youngster scored a century against Sri Lanka A, unfortunately, in a losing cause as the opposition chased down a competitive target of 269 within 31 overs and made it appear like a stroll in the park.
Tector was picked by Northern Knights to make his List-A and First-Class debut in 2018. The following year, the all-rounder earned his maiden national call-up for the Oman Quadrangular Series and the series against Afghanistan in India, but he did not play.
In September, he made his T20I debut against Scotland and scored his maiden half-century in his second T20I game. Later in the same month, he was named in Ireland's squad for the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier tournament in the United Arab Emirates. Ahead of the Qualifiers, ICC named Tector as the player to watch out for in Ireland's squad.
In May 2020, Tector received his maiden ODI cap against England at Southampton where the all-rounder registered a duck on debut. A couple of games later, he scored an unbeaten 29 to finish off a successful chase against the same opposition.
Tector was named in the Ireland Wolves squad to tour Bangladesh for a full-fledged series against Bangladesh's Emerging side in 2021. However, when the original skipper George Dockrell withdrew from the tour, Tector was named as the captain for all the red-ball matches in the series.
The young all-rounder is a viable prospect for Ireland Cricket who provides a lot of promises in all the departments of the game. For that to happen, Tector needs to be in the right spot at the right moment and then make the most out of it.
