Australia Women and England Women are at loggerheads in the high-octane Women's T20 World Cup 2026 final at the Lord's Cricket Ground, London, on Sunday evening.

After winning the toss, the Kangaroos elected to bowl first and removed two early wickets inside the powerplay.

Lucy Hamilton, who bagged her first scalp of the tournament in the final, drew the maiden blood for Australia. However, it was Beth Mooney who hogged the spotlight with the second wicket, in the form of Danni Wyatt-Hodge, of the evening.

Danni Wyatt-Hodge levels Mahela Jayawardene, falls just short of Babar Azam

On Sunday, Danni Wyatt-Hodge became the first woman to score 300 runs in a single T20 World Cup edition. The English opener levelled Sri Lankan great Mahela Jayawardene's record of 302 runs in the 2010 edition, before getting dismissed cheaply in the big final against Australia Women.

However, she fell one short behind Babar Azam, who scored 303 runs during the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE, where Pakistan were eliminated in the semifinal.

  • 319 – Virat Kohli (India), 2014
  • 317 – Tillakaratne Dilshan (Sri Lanka), 2009
  • 317 – Ishan Kishan (India), 2026
  • 303 – Babar Azam (Pakistan), 2021
  • 302 – Mahela Jayawardene (Sri Lanka), 2010
  • 302 – Danni Wyatt-Hodge (England), 2026 (WT20I WC)*

Talking about Wyatt-Hodge's dream campaign in the 2026 edition at home, the experienced opener racked up two half-centuries and a mighty century. However, she fell cheaply in both the knockout games.

The South Africans dismissed her for 12 runs in the semis, while she lasted only for a nine-ball 8 against the six-time champions.

England Women down, but are they out?

At halfway mark, England Women have lost three of their wickets, with the Aussies bossing over them. However, the hosts have got two of their experienced batters, skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt and Heather Knight, to absorb the pressure.

Nevertheless, the Three Lionesses have never lost an ICC event at home, and not even a T20I fixture at Lord's. However, they are yet to win an ICC final against Australia.
