Player Bio

Craig Ervine has roamed all over the world without forgetting his love for representing Zimbabwe. A stylish left-handed middle-order batter, Ervine's family has a strong cricketing tradition in their genes. He piled up a dearth of crucial runs for his nation in the last decade or so, which has truly made him the backbone of the Zimbabwean middle-order.

A talented young Ervine came into the selection side for the 2010 T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and soon made his ODI debut against India in the same year. The Harare-born was then inducted into the national squad for the 2011 World Cup held in the sub-continent, where he was Zimbabwe's leading run-scorer. The southpaw also featured in the 2012 T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka but failed to make much of an impact.

After that, the elegant left-hander's career saw a dip that coincided with the financial crisis in Zimbabwe cricket, after a successful West Indies tour in 2013. However, he returned to international cricket after an 18-month break and was included in the World Cup squad only to have a below-average tournament, on the back of some good nick.

Post the 2015 world event, Ervine returned to form to bash two unbeaten ODI hundreds in a single season. The following year, he scored his maiden Test ton against New Zealand at Harare and surpassed the 1000 Test-run mark in 2017.

Following years of steady service with the bat, Craig Ervine was handed the responsibility of leading Zimbabwe’s white-ball sides in August 2021, a move that signalled both a shift in leadership and a renewed faith in his calm presence.

The early momentum continued into 2022, where January brought a landmark moment in Ervine’s international journey. During Zimbabwe’s three-match ODI series in Sri Lanka, he not only captained the side in challenging subcontinental conditions but also celebrated his 100th ODI appearance in the final match.

As the twilight of his career approached, Craig Ervine showed no signs of dimming. In January 2024, during a T20I clash against Sri Lanka, he played a crucial role in Zimbabwe’s narrow win with a match-winning 70 — an innings marked by timing, temperament, and tactical nous.

The year ended with an even more significant personal milestone. In December 2024, during the Boxing Day Test against Afghanistan, Ervine rolled back the years with a composed and patient 104 — his fourth Test century.

His form carried into the early part of 2025. In a home ODI series against Ireland in February, Ervine continued his middle-order dominance with scores of 66 and an unbeaten 69 in back-to-back matches. Though Zimbabwe’s overall series performance was mixed, Ervine’s contributions stood out for their fluency and control. Whether rebuilding after early wickets or finishing off chases, his approach remained measured and effective. It was a testament to his longevity — a career that, even in its final chapters, was still yielding runs, anchoring innings, and setting standards for a new generation.
