Virat Kohli is now a name that every Indian household knows. His legacy and stature in Indian cricket are currently unmatched by any Indian modern-era batter, and he has done the hard work to reach the place where he is today.

As social media currently stays flooded with videos of Virat Kohli slamming towering shots in the nets and practising his masterful cover drives, a viral video from 12 years back emerged in which Kohli took up a challenge that not many dared to practice, i.e., a blindfold batting challenge.

The viral video of Virat Kohli’s blindfolded batting challenge

Kohli was slowly gaining attention back then, a young boy from Delhi who had over 5000 ODI runs and was eyeing the glory of the next World Cups, still under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.

As Virat is currently the fitness inspiration of millions, he was not strictly a role model back then due to the scarcity of social media in 2014. However, a video uploaded on 'Sir Jadeja'’s YouTube channel is still currently being watched by millions of Kohli admirers.

The blurry, shaky video, filmed at the nets during a practice session back in the day, saw Kohli in the Royal Challengers Bangalore practice jersey.

The video showed him reach into his kitbag and draw out a black cloth that he tied over his eyes to cover his entire vision. As he tied the black cloth, he walked to the batting net and took his stance.

It already became an improbable challenge. How can a batter face a delivery if he can't see it? Hitting shots just by hearing the sound of the ball pitching seems pretty unthinkable since the line, length, and turn of the delivery cannot be predicted by the batter.

Nevertheless, Kohli did it all. As Virat Kohli took his stance, he slammed some glamorous shots to shock the net bowler, and after a few hits, he smiled at the bowler and said, "Your turn, buddy."

Watch the video below:

Kohli even tried hitting the stumps blindfolded as he walked a few feet away from the wickets while being blindfolded and did a 360 to directly hit the stumps in just one try. While all of this seems impossible, the video recorded 12 years ago shows it all.

Did Virat Kohli really play blindfolded?

While the video is pretty much unbelievable for cricketers as well as spectators, there is a possibility that the video was an advertisement campaign from the Royal Challengers franchise of the IPL itself, whose tagline is "Play Bold."

The video also showed flashes of cameras clicking during the practice sessions and a cameraman having impromptu conversations with Kohli, which further makes the case stronger.

As for the blindfolded practice session, there is also a possibility that the cloth Virat Kohli tied around his eyes was semi-transparent, allowing limited visibility for the batter to see through the deliveries and hit and time the balls perfectly.
