Ahead of the CSK vs RR match in the ongoing IPL 2026, all eyes were on Ravindra Jadeja, who was a part of the most talked-about trade ahead of the mini auction held in December. The ‘Thalapathy’ Ravindra Jadeja’s exit from the Chennai Super Kings marked the end of a 13-year-long loyalty.
For the unversed, ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, CSK traded Jadeja and Sam Curran to Rajasthan Royals in return for Sanju Samson, who they see as the upcoming face for the franchise.
Jadeja ensured his return was impactful, picking up match-defining figures of 2 for 18, which included the wickets of Sarfaraz Khan and Shivam Dube, as RR bowled CSK out for 127.
That being said, in this article, let's take a look at Ravindra Jadeja’s stats for CSK and explore the reasons that led to his departure from the 5-time IPL winners.
Ravindra Jadeja Career and Stats for CSK
A young and inexperienced Ravindra Jadeja joined CSK in 2012 for a record $2 million (approximately ₹9.72 crore at the time), the highest bid of the season.
Although he played briefly for Gujarat Lions in 2016 and 2017 due to the franchise's suspension, he had been an integral part of the team’s core, helping them win many titles.
Inversely, CSK also played a pivotal role in transforming Jaddu from a talented youngster into Sir Jadeja, one of the world’s most complete and reliable all-rounders. The franchise’s strong backing, clear role definition, and the astute mentorship of MS Dhoni helped Jadeja reach career heights.

Why did CSK release ‘Thalapathy’ Ravindra Jadeja?
In November 2025, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan explained why the franchise decided to take the tough call to trade Ravindra Jadeja. Speaking in an official video released by CSK, Vishwanathan said that the franchise was in need of a top-order batter, and they decided to use the trade window to get Sanju Samson in.
The CSK CEO said that the call was made with the mutual consent of Jadeja, who was looking for a new opportunity as he was approaching the fag end of his career. He further stated that the fans will be upset seeing Jadeja leave the franchise, but a change was needed ahead of the IPL 2026.
Jadeja gets overwhelmed playing against his former IPL franchise
After the CSK vs RR game, in a heartwarming moment, Ravindra Jadeja was spotted in conversation with his former teammate, Khaleel Ahmed, and later kissed the CSK logo on his jersey.
His act summed up his deep connection with CSK, a team where he evolved into one of the most complete all-rounders in world cricket. Having been part of multiple title-winning campaigns, including the 2018, 2021, and 2023 triumphs, the bond clearly remains intact despite his move.
Reflecting on his departure, Jadeja admitted it wasn’t easy. “Obviously, leaving a franchise like CSK, where I had played for 12-13 years, was a little difficult initially. It was very emotional,” he said.
