RCB finisher Tim David recently triggered a social media storm with a comment on Phil Salt’s recovery. David’s activity on Instagram was seen as racist towards Indian fans amid the IPL 2026 season.
The IPL 2026 season league stages ended on May 24 with RCB, GT, SRH and RR qualifying for the playoffs. In the Qualifier 1 game, defending champions RCB will compete against GT at Dharamsala.
However, Bengaluru are worried about their opener Phil Salt as he is yet to recover from a finger injury.
Tim David’s IG comment on Phil Salt causes a storm
Meanwhile, in the lead-up to the Qualifier 1 game, Phil Salt dropped an Instagram post to tease RCB fans. In the comment section, his teammate Tim David dropped an interesting comment, saying ‘Philsalt recover fast button.”
This was meant as a prayer to wish for Salt’s quick recovery. However, fans sensed a racial angle to it. Such comments are popular among Indian audiences who use them as clickbait to gain likes.
David, who has been in India for the last two months for the IPL, might have learned the trend and decided to participate in it. However, Indian fans accused him of racism and distasteful mockery.

On X, fans trolled Tim David and also a certain section of the RCB fanbase who defended David’s social media activity.
Internet divided on Tim David
While fans on X were enraged and slamming Tim David left, right and centre, the Instagram community saw it differently. Many fans on IG commented on the good things about David.
They praised him for praying for Phil Salt’s recovery and being a good teammate. He understands the importance of Salt’s addition to the RCB lineup, especially in a high-stakes Qualifier 1 game.
With Phil Salt batting at the top, RCB can always count on him to provide blazing starts. And this is exactly what RCB need against a strong lineup of the Gujarat Titans.
Hence, IG fans were instead impressed with Tim David for supporting Phil Salt. However, the sentiment was completely on X as fans went on to accuse David of racism towards Indian fans, which is a serious accusation.
Did Tim David really cross the line? (Conclusion)
Fans on social media often tend to blow little things out of proportion. Tim David’s case is exactly the same. David just wanted to do some banter and show support to his RCB teammate Phil Salt, who has been nursing a finger injury for a while now.
Salt has rejoined the squad and is anxiously waiting to get a final update on his fitness. This waiting period could take a toll on a player’s mental health. Hence, such banter often acts as a medium to lighten the tense atmosphere.
But to give it a racial angle was completely unnecessary, and Tim David did nothing wrong on IG.
