Pakistan selectors made a huge mistake by selecting Pakistan batter Shamyl Hussain in the ODI series vs Bangladesh. The elegant player looked out of sorts and was consistently troubled by the Bangladesh bowlers, as he was even dropped from the playing XI for the final game.

Perhaps, he wasn’t ready for the international stage, and the Pakistan management fast-tracked him, a bit too soon. However, back playing in Pakistan, the talented youngster is back amongst the run-scorers, and he has been the best batter of the PSL 2026, so far.

Shamyl Hussain attains special PSL feat in encounter vs Hyderabad Kingsmen

Playing for the Quetta Gladiators, Shamyl Hussain has looked like a different man ever since the PSL 2026 commenced. He has been authoritative in his approach and has been the backbone of the Quetta side.

The southpaw slammed a majestic fifty in Quetta’s opening match vs Karachi Kings, and he followed it up with yet another half-century vs Hyderabad on Sunday afternoon.

With his second fifty on the trot, the youngster created history, and he became the first Pakistan player to slam back-to-back fifties in his first two PSL matches.

On his debut, there was a fifty, and the momentum continued in the fixture against Hyderabad as well. This is a huge feat for the youngster, as he attained a feat that not even the greatest PSL batters, Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman (PSL leading run-getters), had achieved.

The two veterans (Babar and Fakhar) are households names in PSL, but even they failed to reach this special landmark in PSL.

Shamyl Pushing his case for a place in T20I squad

Pakistan’s T20I squad looks good on paper, but in reality, they have been in shambles for the last few years. In the last couple of years, the Pakistan management has tried several players at the top, and interestingly, none have worked wonders.

The only player who has looked threatening at the top has been Sahibzada Farhan, and the rest have failed to deliver the goods, including the talented Saim Ayub.

The Men in Green certainly need a reliable opener to pair with Sahibzada Farhan, and if Shamyl continues his red-hot form in PSL 2026, he could be fast-tracked in the T20I squad, a format that suits him more than the ODIs.

The squad certainly needs an aggressive option at the top, and Shamyl can fulfil that role for Pakistan.

Shamyl's knock takes Quetta to competitive 174

Quetta won the toss and the captain had no hesitation in electing to bat first on a hot afternoon. Skipper Saud Shakeel departed early, but this is when the young Shamyl showed his composure for the Gladiators.

Overseas star, Rilee Rossow, departed for a duck, and after that, Shamyl took command of the proceedings, and took the attack to the opposition.

He smashed three fours and three sixes, and achieved back-to-back fifties for Quetta. The batter was sent back for a valiant 54, before Tom Curran gave finishing touches (31 off 18), as the Gladiators reached a respectable 174/8 in their allotted 20 overs.
