Quinton de Kock could not have asked for a better comeback in IPL than the blockbuster show he had put on Thursday for Mumbai Indians during the IPL 2026 match against Punjab Kings at Wankhede Stadium. In the process, he went past MS Dhoni in a list that contains a major IPL record.
De Kock was MI’s hero in IPL 2020. It was a memorable season for the South African, who made 503 runs across 16 innings to help his side win the title for the fifth time, becoming the first-ever franchise to achieve the feat. And on Thursday, he rolled back the years in his first IPL 2026 match for his old franchise.
Quinton De Kock Makes Opportunity Count
De Kock came to MI’s lineup in place of injured Rohit Sharma, who missed out on action after sustaining a hamstring injury during their previous outing against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The 33-year-old announced his arrival with a first-ball six, and did not stop there from then on.
A few moments later, De Kock notched up a thumping half-century, for the 25th time in the competition over the years. Only KL Rahul has more half-centuries or more runs than de Kock, while MS Dhoni has had 24 fifty-plus scores in IPL.
