Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have been hit with injury setbacks hard lately, as two of their foreign overseas pace options have made themselves unavailable for the entire IPL 2026.

While it was Brydon Carse injury setback earlier, the Orange Army will not have the services of David Payne either for the remainder of IPL 2026. SRH on Thursday confirmed that the English left-arm pacer will not be there with the squad after sustaining an ankle injury.

SRH Announce David Payne Out Of IPL 2026

Not to forget, David Payne joined SRH just before the start of IPL 2026. They lost Jack Edwards, whom they signed for INR 3 crore at the last IPL auction.

However, a foot injury ruled Edwards out of IPL 2026, which brought Payne into the limelight. Unfortunately, now he is out of action for a while as well.

Importantly, SRH though named a replacement for Carse, they have not done the same for Payne.

Now aged 35, Payne has only played one international game for England. It was against the Netherlands, in June 2022.

In terms of domestic leagues, Payne has played in the Big Bash League (BBL), playing for two franchises, Adelaide Strikers and Perth Scorchers. In last season, he played six matches and picked up 11 wickets, maintaining an economy rate of 6.47 while averaging 13.54.

Thanks to his recent heroics, he got the opportunity to bag an IPL contract, only to see it go wasted a couple of weeks later.

With Pat Cummins yet to be fully fit for IPL 2026, Payne had a couple of opportunities to showcase his skill set. While he was impressive against the defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), having got the wickets of Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma.

Nevertheless, KKR’s Finn Allen ripped Payne apart in the following match, smashing 25 runs in a single over. After that, he could find his place in SRH playing XI in IPL 2026.

How Have SRH Fared In IPL 2026?

Under the leadership of Ishan Kishan, SRH have shown promise in IPL 2026, but not in a consistent manner. They have won twice, but also lost on three occasions, leaving themselves sitting in fourth place on the points table.

More significantly, SRH handed high-flying Rajasthan Royals (RR) their first defeat of the season. They reduced Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Yashasvi Jaiswal-starred batting attack to 9/5 at one point, with two emerging sensations, Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain taking all the limelight.

When Will SRH Play Next In IPL 2026?

SRH, will next face five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who just had a commanding victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Chennai.

The SRH vs CSK match will take place on Saturday, with Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium set to host the high-octane match.
