KL Rahul punched out an elegant half-century against KKR in Delhi Capitals’ final league match of the IPL 2026 season. The prolific wicketkeeper-batter smeared 60 runs off just 30 balls with five cracking boundaries and four scorching sixes in match 70 of the tournament at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

The innings marked the 45th half-century of Rahul’s decorated IPL career, and his sixth fifty-plus score this season. Through the course of his fiery top-order knock, the Capitals charted a monumental total after getting invited to bat first by KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane.

Moreover, the 34-year-old also achieved a major IPL batting record, joining his own eight-year-old feat and Rishabh Pant in the process. Notably, the feat in contention pertains to the league’s wicketkeeper-batters, and it even eluded former CSK captain MS Dhoni.

KL Rahul achieves huge wicketkeeping IPL record

KL Rahul notched up his sixth fifty-plus score of the ongoing IPL 2026 season through his fiery 60-run knock from 30 balls against the KKR on Sunday, May 24. The cricketer has now marked only the fourth instance in IPL history where a wicketkeeper-batter has scored over five fifty-plus scores in a single edition of the tournament.

Moreover, Rahul himself has now achieved the feat for the second time in his career, thus becoming the first wicketkeeper-batter in IPL history to chart more than five fifty-plus scores in a single season.

To put that in perspective, the most half-centuries MS Dhoni ever registered in a single IPL season was four, a feat he achieved back in IPL 2013. To date, only three players have recorded six scores of fifty or more in a single IPL season, with Rahul himself featuring twice on the celebrated list alongside Rishabh Pant and Punjab Kings opener Prabhsimran Singh.

Here is a look at some players with the highest number of fifty-plus scores to their names in a single IPL season as wicketkeeper-batters.

Most 50+ scores as a wicketkeeper in an IPL season

  • 6 - Rishabh Pant (2018)
  • 6 - KL Rahul (2018)
  • 6 - Prabhsimran Singh (2026)
  • 6 - KL Rahul (2026)

When KL Rahul shattered records with epic 152*

Notably, this is not the first instance KL Rahul scaled a rare batting record this IPL 2026 season. Just last month, the cricketer plundered an epic 152* off just 67 balls against Punjab Kings in Delhi.

Delhi Capitals mount 203-5 in farewell game

Delhi Capitals, already out of the IPL 2026 playoffs race, batted first and mounted 203-5 in 20 overs. Apart from Rahul’s fiery 30-ball 60, captain Axar Patel (39 off 25), David Miller (28 off 19) and Ashutosh Sharma (18* off 11) also scored quick runs in the middle.

For hosts KKR, Saurabh Dubey unfurled the spell of the high-scoring innings with impressive figures of 2-28 from his four overs.
