The Men’s T20I has evolved over the years, especially after the growing trend of franchise leagues. As and when the eras changed, some players shattered record books through explosive power-hitting and fearless intent.
In the last couple of decades, the T20I format has witnessed some special individual knocks from some legends of the game. From legendary knocks by Aaron Finch to the latest record-breaking assault from Hamza Khan, the format has witnsed some of the magical innings.
On that note, there’s a look at the five highest individual scores ever recorded in Men’s T20I cricket.
5. Aaron Finch - 156 runs vs England, 2013
Back in 2013, when power hitting was not the norm in T20I cricket, Australian opener Aaron Finch stood out and set a template. Against England, he scored 156 runs off just 63 balls at Southampton. Finch attacked England’s bowling from the very beginning and reached his century at extraordinary speed. He had hit 14 sixes alone in that innings and guided Australia to a 248-run total. This knock still stands out as one of the best ever recorded in Men’s T20I cricket. More than a decade later, Finch remains the only player to appear twice in the top five list.

4. Mohammad Ihsan - 160 vs Croatia, 2025
Promising batter from Spain, Mohammad Ihsan, hammered 160 against Croatia during the fourth T20I of the tour. Ihsan 160 came off 63 balls with 17 sixes. He batted at a strike rate of over 253, which was astonishing. His innings quickly became one of the highest-scoring knocks ever by an associate nation batter. Owing to his knock, Spain scored 290/3. In response, Croatia crumbled to just 75/8, thus enduring a 215-run defeat. With that record innings, Mohammad Ihsan became a legend in Spanish cricket history.
3. Hazratullah Zazai - 162* vs Ireland, 2019
Back in 2019, Afghanistan opener Hazratullah Zazai accumulated 162* off just 62 balls against Ireland in the second T20I of the series. Zazai was ruthless as he scored 11 fours and 16 sixes with a strike rate of 261. Naturally, Afghanistan finished with a mammoth score of 278/3. Ireland couldn’t handle the scoreboard pressure as they collapsed to 194/6 and gave Afghanistan an easy 84-run victory.
2. Hamza Khan - 164* vs Ivory Coast, 2026
Rwanda’s Hamza Khan stunned the cricket world by blasting an unbeaten 164 against the Ivory Coast during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional Qualifier. His innings came off just 65 balls and featured 15 massive sixes at a strike rate above 250. The knock instantly became one of the greatest performances in associate cricket history and pushed Hamza to second place on the all-time Men’s T20I scoring chart. Rwanda finished with 288/2, one of the highest totals ever in Men’s T20Is, before bowling Ivory Coast out for just 17.
1. Aaron Finch - 172 vs Zimbabwe, 2018
Aaron Finch still holds the record for the highest individual score in Men’s T20I history after his jaw-dropping 172 against Zimbabwe in 2018. The Australian opener unleashed carnage from the very beginning, smashing boundaries all around the ground and finishing with one of the most destructive innings ever seen in international cricket. Finch’s innings included 16 fours and 10 sixes and remains the benchmark for T20 batting excellence. Even years later, no batter has managed to surpass the 172-run mark in international T20 cricket.
