Team India outgunned New Zealand in the third T20I of their five-match series to take an unassailable 3-0 lead. Chasing 154 for a win, Indian opener Abhishek Sharma as well as captain Suryakumar Yadav brought out the fireworks as the hosts wrapped up the chase in just 10 overs.

Despite losing opener Sanju Samson for a first-ball duck, Team India blazed past the 50-run mark in just 3.1 overs. Abhishek Sharma and number three Ishan Kishan led India’s charge after the early dismissal as the two cricketers shared a 53-run partnership in just 19 deliveries for the second wicket.

Abhishek Sharma exploded with 68* runs from just 20 balls with seven fours and five sixes. The blistering opener raced to his 50 in just 14 deliveries to record India’s second fastest half-century in the history of T20I cricket, falling only behind his own mentor Yuvraj Singh. Apart from slapping India’s fastest team 50 in a T20I, the ‘Men in Blue’ also raced to their joint-fastest team 100 in the format. Led by Abhishek Sharma and supported by Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav, India raced to team 100 in just 6.3 overs to level up with last year’s record against England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Abhishek Sharma slapped a 14-ball half-century to notch up his 10th score of 50 or more in T20I cricket. Notably, the attacking opener has gone past the 50-run mark in either 25 or lesser balls a total of nine times, thus marking a world record. He went past active teammate and skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who has aggregated eight 50-plus scores by facing 25 or lesser deliveries in his career.

The Indian cricket team also recorded its 11th successive T20I series win, thus levelling up with Pakistan’s streak between 2016 and 2018. India’s streak began with a 3-0 routing of Afghanistan back in January 2024.
It is worth noting that India’s 11 consecutive series wins also included the remarkable triumphs of the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Asia Cup.
