Delhi Capitals took on CSK in the 48th match of the IPL 2026 season at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. However, Karun Nair failed to convert his chance and hence faced fans’ anger on social media.

Nair was included in the playing XI ahead of young talents like Abhishek Porel. While fans were already puzzled with the selection, Karun gave them another reason to be upset.

Karun Nair faces heat after a cheap dismissal vs CSK

Batting first, DC lost in-form openers Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul early in the powerplay. With their backs against the wall, the Capitals sent in Karun Nair to bat at no. 4.

However, facing Noor Ahmad, Nair opted for a sweep and mistimed it straight to Gurjapneet Singh at short fine leg. It was a simple catch, handing Noor an early wicket and halting Nair’s promising start.

As Karun Nair walked back on just 13 off 13 balls, fans on social media bashed him incessantly. They called him undeserving and also criticised DC management for trusting Nair in a crucial game.

Not only that, many fans urged Karun to step away from T20 cricket as he no longer meets the demands of the high-pace game.

DC off to an ugly start

The decision of Axar Patel to bat first after winning the toss completely backfired on the Delhi Capitals. Mukesh Choudhary dismissed Pathum Nissanka by deceiving him with a change of pace.

Nissanka played with a cross bat, but due to mistiming, he holed out to Dewald Brevis at mid-on as CSK drew first blood.

To add to the misery, KL Rahul also fell prey to Akeal Hosein. Rahul tried to run down the track to hit an inside-out shot against Hosein but got beaten and ended up holing out to Ruturaj Gaikwad.

And later, Karun Nair also got dismissed, and with that, DC lost three wickets at just 52 runs on the board.

CSK tighten their grip on DC

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals’ misery didn’t end with Karun Nair as they faced a mini-collapse. After Nair’s dismissal, they lost Nitish Rana to Noor Ahmad. Rana also tried to sweep but found Kartik Sharma at fine leg, meaning he had to walk back on 15 off 13 balls.

Gurjapneet Singh also got success as he dismissed DC captain Axar Patel. The skipper went for a drive on the back foot, which turned out to be a horrible shot selection. He holed out to Akeal Hosein at cover, thus extending his poor run in IPL 2026.
