The ongoing IPL 2026 has become a paradise for batters, with big scores and aggressive strike rates defining almost every match. Fans are witnessing a run-fest like never before, and as a result, the race for the Orange Cap has become extremely unpredictable.

With players scoring heavily in nearly every game, even a single innings is enough to completely change the IPL 2026 Orange Cap leaderboard.

Saturday, April 25, turned out to be one of the most dramatic days of the season, especially in the Orange Cap race. A double-header filled with high-scoring games saw multiple players rise and fall within hours.

Orange Cap changes hands 4 times in single day

The day began with Virat Kohli holding the Orange Cap. However, the lead did not last long. In the first match, KL Rahul smashed an unbeaten 152 off 67 balls to take over the top spot.

Soon after, teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi delivered a stunning performance, scoring a 36-ball century against SRH. His knock also briefly earned him the Orange Cap.

The drama did not end there. By the end of the evening, Abhishek Sharma played a quickfire 57 to climb to the top of the charts, ending the day as the leading run-scorer.

Fans reacted strongly on social media. Many joked about the frequent changes, while others criticised the flat pitches.

One fan stated that - "Orange Cap doing more shifts today than a 24/7 chemist. Teams in IPL should not invest on bowlers. No point in having specialist bowlers with these kind of pitches. And even rules are so unfair to bowlers."

When did the Orange Cap start in IPL?

The Orange Cap was introduced in the very first IPL season in 2008. It was officially launched on April 25, 2008, and is awarded to the highest run-scorer of the tournament.

The first player to win it was Shaun Marsh, who scored 616 runs for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). The first Indian to win the cap was Sachin Tendulkar in 2010. Over the years, players like Virat Kohli and David Warner have won the award multiple times.

IPL 2026 Purple Cap Standings

While batters are dominating, bowlers are still competing for the Purple Cap in IPL 2026. Anshul Kamboj currently leads with 14 wickets in 7 matches. Eshan Malinga is tied with 14 wickets but has played one more match.

Jofra Archer holds third place with 13 wickets, followed by Prince Yadav and Prasidh Krishna. Despite the batting dominance, the Purple Cap race remains competitive.
