"This Is Why His Wife Left": Virender Sehwag Hit Below The Belt For 'No Knowledge' Mistake

Virender Sehwag hasn't always been one of the best off-field experts, even though he is regarded as a batting legend for India. Currently doing commentary stints in the Indian Premier League, Sehwag faced a humiliating moment when he admitted he did not know about SRH debutant Smaran Ravichandran.

During the SRH vs KKR IPL 2026 clash at Uppal on May 3, Virender Sehwag was one of the panellists as a cricket pundit. During a light conversation mid-innings on the JioHotstar show, Sehwag faced an on-air humiliation for not doing his homework properly.

Why Was Virender Sehwag Humiliated On Air?

In conversation with ex-cricketer Manoj Tiwary, Sehwag admitted his limited knowledge. As Tiwary shared, "I am very excited to see Smaran Ravichandran today,” Sehwag replied with the remark, “Karte kya hai woh? (What does he do?)”

Sehwag’s expression left quite an air of awkwardness in the room since Ravichandran, a Karnataka batter who made his debut in the match to score 4 runs, has been one of the primary auction buys for the franchise.

Smaran Ravichandran was roped in by the Orange Army in the IPL 2026 auction, where he was priced at INR 30 lakh. SRH bagged him at his base price when he was considered one of the most promising young batters in the tournament.

Tiwary further added, “He is a talented Batsman and can bowl offspin as well.” Completely unaware of Ravichandran’s statistics, Virender Sehwag gave a foolish nod to Tiwary.

Internet Brings Sehwag’s Wife To Troll Him

This on-air incident enraged fans on social media. People took to the internet to slam Virender Sehwag’s reluctant behaviour towards his work.

Meanwhile, many also dragged his wife, Aarti Ahlawat, into the conversation, sharing that Sehwag's reluctance has caused the couple's divorce.

Let’s take a look at how the internet reacted to Sehwag’s laid-back work:

Is Virender Sehwag And His Wife Divorced?

As of May 2026, neither Sehwag nor Aarti has provided official confirmation of their separation. Sources indicate they have been living separately for months and have mutually decided to unfollow each other on Instagram.

The couple, married in April 2004, have two sons, Aryaveer and Vedant. After rumours of a separation, Sehwag posted photos with his two sons but without Aarti, which further strained the relationship, as speculated by fans on social media.

Virender Sehwag and his Career In Commentary

Although Sehwag has faced brutal trolling on the Smaran Ravichandran topic, he has been one of the early faces of the Hindi broadcast revolution.

During the 2016 T20 World Cup and subsequent IPL seasons, he paired with Aakash Chopra for live commentary stints. Currently a full-time commentator, Sehwag also served as a mentor and director of cricket for Punjab Kings from 2016 to 2018.

Nevertheless, he has been one of the key cricket pundits for Indian viewers since his retirement. In IPL 2024, Sehwag headlined the debut of Haryanvi commentary, which he is continuing successfully into IPL 2026.
