Punjab Kings trumped CSK in a high-scoring thriller in match number seven of the IPL 2026 season. Chasing over 200 runs at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai on Friday, April 3, visiting batters Priyansh Arya, Cooper Connolly and captain Shreyas Iyer all rose to the occasion to make lightwork of the hostsā formidable total.
After the match, the franchise made a harmless social media post where their players can be seen taking a sly dig at CSK. While the post appeared to be light-hearted banter, it evidently did not sit well with a section of Chennai fans.
Punjab Kings take a sly dig at CSK
On April 4, i.e., a day after Punjab Kingsā comprehensive win over CSK, the franchise shared a short and playful video on their social media accounts. In the video, several Punjab Kings players like Arshdeep Singh, Harpreet Brar, Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh were jokingly asked why did they travelled to Chepauk.

Priyansh Arya, who won the āPlayer of the Matchā award for his enterprising knock at the top of the order, aptly responded āto collect two pointsā.

CSK fans hit back at PBKS
Punjab Kingsā āplayfulā social media post seemingly did not went down well with a section of CSK fans. After the post, several CSK fans took to X and called out the Shreyas Iyer-led franchise for merely celebrating wins against ābigger teamsā.
Some CSK fans were also quick to point out Punjab Kingsā trophy-less cabinet while bragging about their own legacy carved out by former skipper and legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni. CSK vs PBKS: As it happened
Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to field first. In response, CSK lost opener Sanju Samson for just seven in the second over of the match as the blistering wicketkeeper-batter suffered his second successive failure this IPL 2026 season. Ayush Mhatre at number three compiled 73 from 43 balls with six boundaries and five sixes to counterattack for the hosts.
Shivam Dube provided the finishing touches through his swift 27-ball 45-run knock, and Sarfaraz Khan blasted 32 from just 12 balls as CSK mounted 209-5 in 20 overs.
Chasing 210, Priyansh Arya belted 39 from just 11 deliveries with three fours and four sixes at the Chepauk Stadium to get the visitors off to a flier. Prabhsimran Singh carted 43 off 34, and in-form Cooper Connolly made 36 from 22 deliveries. Captain Shreyas Iyer led his side from the front in the middle overs by slapping a 29-ball half-century, before whirlwind cameos from Shashank Singh and Marcus Stoinis blazed Punjab Kings past hosts with five wickets and eight balls to spare.
Currently placed at the top of the IPL 2026 points table, Shreyas Iyer and co. will now take on KKR in Kolkata on Monday, April 6. Winless CSK, on the other hand, will face defending champions RCB on Sunday, April 5.
