In a phenomenal achievement, Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman bagged a historic record in Pakistan after being discarded for the IPL 2026 by India. Mustafizur was purchased for a whopping price of INR 9.20 crores by Kolkata Knight Riders at the IPL 2026 auction.
However, the BCCI terminated his IPL contract soon after the auction amid escalating geopolitical tensions between India and Bangladesh.
As a result, Mustafizur couldn't participate in the IPL 2026, but Lahore Qalandars made the most of the opportunity, signing the Bangladesh pacer for the PSL 2026.
The Bangladesh seamer displaced Mohammad Amir from the top of an elite list following his performance against Multan Sultans.

Led by Shaheen Afridi, defending champions Lahore Qalandars faced Multan Sultans in their third group-stage match of the ongoing PSL season.
Batting first, the Qalandars posted a competitive total of 185 runs in just 13 overs, setting a mammoth target for their opponents in the rain-affected match.
Opening batters Mohammad Naeem and Parvez Hossain Emon starred with the bat for Lahore, contributing 60 and 45 runs, respectively, to the team total.

Although the experienced duo of Shan Masood and Ashton Turner gave the Qalandars a run for their money during the run chase, Mustafizur Rahman brought Lahore back into the game by bowling an impressive spell.
The IPL-reject pacer bagged prized wickets of Sahibzada Farhan and Shan Masood, thereby scripting history in Pakistan after being ignored by India for the IPL.

The wickets of Sahibzada Farhan and Shan Masood helped Mustafizur Rahman etch his name in record books after being axed from the IPL 2026. The Bangladesh speedster topped an elite bowling list, proving his worth in Pakistan.
Before the Qalandars vs Sultans face-off, Mustafizur had 414 wickets in T20 cricket. As he added two more scalps to his tally, the Bangladesh ace went past Pakistan's Mohammad Amir and became the highest wicket-taker among left-arm pacers in T20s.
Most wickets by left-arm pacers in T20 cricket
- Mustafizur Rahman - 416
- Mohammad Amir- 415
- Wahab Riaz- 413
- Sohail Tanvir- 389
- David Willey- 371
As mentioned above, Mustafizur now holds the record for the most wickets by a left-arm pacer in T20s, having displaced Mohammad Amir from the top position.
Former Pakistan fast bowlers Wahab Riaz and Sohail Tanvir claim the third and fourth positions, respectively. England pacer David Willey occupies the fifth spot, having bagged 371 wickets in the shortest format.
Having said that, Mohammad Amir has a genuine chance to displace Mustafizur and reclaim the throne, as he's currently active as a player in the PSL.
KKR feeling Mustafizur Rahman's absence in IPL 2026
Mustafizur Rahman continues to grab the attention through impressive outings in the PSL 2026. Meanwhile, his IPL franchise KKR has dearly felt his absence, with their lead bowlers- Vaibhav Arora, Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine struggling to pick wickets.
Additionally, pace spearhead Matheesha Pathirana has yet to receive fitness clearance from the SLC Sports Science and Medicine Department.
The unavailability of key pacers like Mustafizur and Pathirana has adversely affected the Knight Riders' campaign, as the three-time champions are reeling at ninth in the IPL points table.
