Abhishek Sharma registered yet another failure, this time against Zimbabwe in the third T20I of the three-match series in Harare. Opening the innings with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the belligerent left-hander made just two off four balls before nicking one towards Zimbabwe wicketkeeper Tadiwanashe Marumani.

Interestingly, it was Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani who dismissed the star Indian opener, doing so for the third successive time this series.

Following Abhishek’s latest failure, a legion of Indian cricket fans expectedly flocked to X and criticised the struggling opener for his sustained lean patch with the bat.

Indian fans troll Abhishek Sharma for underwhelming Zimbabwe series

Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for just two off four balls in the third T20I of India’s away series against Zimbabwe. In each match of the series, the Indian opener registered single-digit scores and got toppled by Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani.

For his underwhelming series with the bat, as well as for his below-par outings in Ireland and England over the past month, the 25-year-old has now coped with much criticism from Indian cricket fans and experts alike.

Several fans even took to X to call out Sharma’s recent struggles with the bat. Here is a look at some of the fans expressing their take on the Indian opener.

Abhishek surpasses KL Rahul for unwanted record in shambolic list

Abhishek Sharma eventually concluded the three-match T20I series with just 11 runs to his name. Maintaining an abysmal batting average of 3.67, the cricketer has now surpassed KL Rahul for a huge unwanted record of scoring the least number of runs in a single series as an Indian opener.

Previously, Rahul aggregated 15 runs during India’s home series against England back in 2021.

Abhishek Sharma concludes three-nation tour with just one fifty

The Indian cricket team has collectively toured Ireland, England and Zimbabwe in the space of a month to play 10 T20I matches spanning three series. Being one of the few members of the squad to have featured in India’s playing XI in all 10 games, Abhishek managed to aggregate just 191 runs in 10 innings at a dismal average of 19.10.

Moreover, the cricketer hit just one fifty across all three tours, doing so in England earlier this month, albeit in a losing cause.

Even in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup earlier this year, the 25-year-old made just 141 runs in eight innings of the tournament with just two fifties to his name.

With growing calls from fans for the return of Sanju Samson, the team management might feel inclined towards dropping Abhishek Sharma from the squad (or playing XI) should the belligerent opener fails to recover his lost touch with the bat.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi gets India off to a flier

After the dismissal of Abhishek, young opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi took charge and smashed a blistering half-century against Zimbabwe in the third T20I.

At the time of publishing, India reached 129-2 in 14 overs.
