Former South Africa cricketer Faf du Plessis has come in for some unwanted attention from the fans of the two franchises he majorly played for in the Indian Premier League (IPL)—Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Faf du Plessis had made his IPL debut in 2012 for Chennai Super Kings, and he played for the franchise till IPL 2021. In between, Du Plessis also played for the Rising Pune Supergiants when CSK was banned and returned to the CSK fold on their return.

He was released by the CSK franchise ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction and was bought by Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and he played three seasons for them in IPL 2022-2024. Du Plessis’ final IPL outing was for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025, after which he announced his retirement from the IPL.

Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru set for blockbuster encounter

Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru will be clashing in one of the most anticipated encounters in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) on April 5. This match will be played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

This will be the second IPL 2026 match for the RCB franchise, who defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in the tournament opener on March 28 at the same venue. Virat Kohli had done well with the bat, as his unbeaten fifty had led RCB to a huge 8-wicket win.

On the other hand, CSK are down on their luck and performance. In the absence of MS Dhoni in the playing XI, as he recovers from a calf strain, Chennai has lost both of their first two games in the tournament. They first lost to Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati in their tournament opener, where their batters failed.

Then in their first home game of the IPL 2026 season, Punjab Kings hammered the CSK bowlers, scoring over 200 runs that the fragile CSK batting couldn’t chase down. This encounter against RCB will be a huge one for CSK, as they seek to register their first win of the season.
