India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has once again found himself in the news after his recent meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. 

The meeting comes at a time when reports suggest that India's selectors are considering a leadership change in the T20I format.

With discussions about his future as India's T20I captain growing, the timing of the meeting has sparked reactions from fans on social media.

Suryakumar Yadav Meets Maharashtra CM Amid Captaincy Talks

Suryakumar Yadav visited Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at his official residence, Varsha, in Mumbai on Friday. 

The meeting was confirmed by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) with a social media post. The CMO stated that the star player had paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Minister.

However, the visit quickly became a topic of discussion among fans because it came at a time when questions are being raised about Suryakumar's future as India's T20I captain.

Many social media users reacted strongly to the meeting. Some fans accused the cricketer of trying to influence decisions regarding the captaincy. 

One fan wrote, "The desperation of Surya is evident here. The timing of Suryakumar’s meeting shows the amount of lobbying that goes on. After this, SKY deserves to lose his spot."

Another user commented, "He is basically using sifarish to get team captaincy back." Several others mocked the situation with comments such as -  "T20 captaincy saving struggle is going well."












Suryakumar Yadav's Form Under Scanner

The discussions around Suryakumar Yadav's captaincy gained momentum after a disappointing run with the bat for a long time now. During the T20 World Cup 2026, he scored 242 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 136.72.

His struggles continued in IPL 2026, where he managed only 270 runs in 13 innings at an average of 20.76. Mumbai Indians also endured a difficult campaign, finishing ninth in the IPL 2026 points table.

Has Time Run Out For Suryakumar Yadav?

According to reports, selectors are considering a fresh leadership approach as India begins preparations for the T20 World Cup 2028.

Shreyas Iyer has reportedly emerged as a strong candidate to replace Suryakumar as T20I captain. Hardik Pandya's name was also on the list due to his experience as a captain in international cricket and IPL.

Other players who were earlier being discussed as future leadership options include Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma, Axar Patel, and Ishan Kishan.

It is important to note that India’s squad for the Ireland and England series will be announced soon. 

The focus will be on the India team management and selectors and whether they decide to continue with Suryakumar Yadav or appoint a new captain in the shortest format of the game.
