Kohli suffered a hamstring injury in the IPL final [Source: AFP]
The Indian ODI side sustained a huge blow as Virat Kohli, their star player, was ruled out of the Afghanistan ODI matches due to a hamstring injury. Kohli was picked in the original squad, but the batter suffered an injury in the IPL 2026 finals against the Gujarat Titans and was subsequently left out of the team.
Kohli is also doubtful for the England ODI series next month as the 37-year-old faces a race against time to be fit for the future ODI matches for India, as India has replaced him with Ruturaj Gaikwad in the Afghanistan series.
It was towards the closing stages of the IPL final when the RCB player clutched his hamstring and was attended by the team physio. However, in the latest revelation, it seems he was carrying the niggle well before the IPL finals.
Not IPL final, new revelation on Virat Kohli's hamstring injury
Kohli looked in discomfort towards the end of the IPL finals, but in a video that has gone viral, it looked as if the Indian and RCB great had the hamstring issues even before a single ball was delivered in the finale.
The video showcases Kohli coming out for the final warm-up before the Gujarat Titans clash, and what caught the eye was that the great player was constantly putting his hand on his hamstring, as if he was in discomfort.
In the video, he checked on his hamstring multiple times before starting the final training session alongside his teammates.

Hence, one can assume that Kohli was having the niggle for a long period of time, but the player went through the match without showcasing it on his face.
Kohli suffers Distal Semimembranosus Tendon Tear
Kohli’s medical report, which was reportedly submitted to the BCCI, showcased that the Indian batter sustained a rare distal semimembranosus tendon tear.
One of the main reasons for the injury was that the 37-year-old pushed his body beyond the limit in the finale, and continued to play despite being in discomfort.

A distal semimembranosus tendon tear is a rupture of the lower hamstring tendon near the back of the knee. It is one of the three main hamstring muscles that run down through the back of your thigh. It is essential for the bending of the knee and extending the hip.
Despite injury, Kohli helps RCB win back-to-back IPL titles
The Gujarat Titans batted first and the Shubman Gill-led side posted a meagre 155 as the RCB team needed a small total to win the title. Kohli, as he often does in big games, hogged the centre stage and played a match-winning knock.
He started the innings with a barrage of boundaries and scored a 25-ball fifty in the IPL finals. Midway through the game, he sustained a hamstring tear, but instead of going out of the field, he continued to play through the pain and scored an unbeaten 75 to help his team win back-to-back championships.
However, it seems pushing his body was perhaps not the best of ideas, as the veteran player will now have to be on the sidelines for the next couple of months.
