Hyderabad Kingsmen crush Multan Sultans, reach Qualifier 2
Putting aside the light-hearted commentary moment involving Ramiz Raja, the Hyderabad Kingsmen franchise crushed Ashton Turner’s Multan Sultans to storm into the second qualifier of the PSL 2026 season.
Batting first, the Multan Sultans charted 159-9 in 20 overs. Both in-form openers Sahibzada Farhan (15 off 12) and Steve Smith (13 off 10) failed to get going on the big day as they were dismissed by Akif Javed and Mohammad Ali inside the powerplay.
Shan Masood at number four top-scored in the innings with his regal 69* from 46 balls with four boundaries and four sixes. Mohammad Nawaz also scored handy runs in the backend of the innings.
For the Hyderabad Kingsmen, Akif Javed picked up the important wickets of Farhan and Nawaz to claim figures of 2-30. Mohammad Ali and Hunain Shah also picked up two wickets each in the innings to restrict Sultans to a sub-par total.
Chasing 160, Kingsmen opener Maaz Sadaqat blasted 64 off just 33 balls at the top of the order. Number three Usman Khan also smeared 64* from 35 deliveries with eight boundaries and three sixes as the Kingsmen secured a comprehensive eight-wicket win in just 15.2 overs.
Marnus Labuschagne and co. will now face the Islamabad United in the second qualifier match of the PSL 2026 season on Friday, May 1 in Lahore.
Low crowd turnout in PSL Eliminator surprises fans
The eliminator match of the PSL 2026 season surprisingly witnessed a low crowd turnout at the Gaddafi Stadium. Large sections of the venue remained visibly empty during the high-stakes game.
The low turnout came as a surprise because the PCB had only recently reopened stadium gates for fans after having organized the league stage of the tournament behind closed doors owing to the prevailing fuel crisis in the country.
