Suryakumar Yadav unleashed yet another statement knock in the ongoing Mumbai T20 League 2026 season, this time against the MSC Maratha Royals at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday, June 8. Mere days after bashing 48 runs off just 24 balls against Shreyas Iyer’s team, Suryakumar has now slapped a match-winning 36-ball 72* for the Triumph Knights Mumbai North East.
The senior Indian batter clattered 13 boundaries and one huge six to storm his side to a comfortable six-wicket win with four overs to spare.
The innings now marks Suryakumar’s second successive notable knock, as the cricketer continues to roar after getting dropped from the national side. It is worth noting that the 35-year-old was also stripped off his captaincy going ahead in favor of Shreyas Iyer.
Suryakumar Yadav roars again after getting dropped from Indian team
Suryakumar Yadav notched up 72* attacking runs off just 36 balls against the MSC Maratha Royals at the Wankhede Stadium. Chasing 153 for a win, the cricketer whacked 13 boundaries and a six.
Arriving to the crease at 36-2 inside the powerplay, the senior batter shared a match-defining 103-run partnership with number three batter and fellow half-centurion Nutan Goel. Suryakumar also notched up the winning runs for the Triumph Knights Mumbai North East team in just 16 overs with six wickets to spare.

While Suryakumar Yadav also won the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his 72-run knock, the senior cricketer shared the award with teammate Sylvester D’Souza.
D’Souza picked up five wickets in the game at an expense of just 21 runs off his four overs. His spell helped the Triumph Knights Mumbai North East team to bundle out the entire MSC Maratha Royals for just 152 in 19.5 overs in match number 15 of the Mumbai T20 2026 season.
Suryakumar dropped, stripped from captaincy for IRE, ENG tours
Just a few days ago, Suryakumar Yadav was dropped from the national squad and stripped off his captaincy for the upcoming T20I tours of Ireland and England. The selection committee named Shreyas Iyer as his replacement while keeping the 2028 Olympics and the 2028 ICC T20 World Cup in mind.
It is worth noting that under the leadership of Suryakumar, Team India did not lose a single series, bilateral or otherwise. He also led the team to a historic win at the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup earlier this year. Last year, Yadav was the captain of the Indian team that won the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup in the UAE after defeating Pakistan thrice in the space of a month.
