Babar Azam sustained yet another failure this BBL 2025-26 season, this time falling for a two-ball duck against Perth Scorchers in the qualifier match. Opening the innings for the Sydney Sixers at the Perth Stadium, Babar Azam failed to read a Cooper Connolly delivery, and got out stumped by lightning-fast Josh Inglis behind the wicket.

It is worth noting that the legendary Pakistan batter has maintained a below par average of just 25.25 this season for the Sydney Sixers, having aggregated a little over 200 runs from 10 innings at an underwhelming strike rate of 104.12.

Fans react as Babar Azam fails again on the big day

Babar was dismissed for a two-ball duck against Perth Scorchers in the qualifier match of the BBL 2025-26 season on Tuesday, January 20. His scoreless outing marked the cricketer’s seventh failure out of 11 innings in the tournament.

Babar Azam’s latest setback marked a significant blow to Sydney Sixers’ prospects on the big day as they struggle to clinch a place in the BBL 2025-26 final.

As one can expect, fans were quick to flock to social media to express their strong reactions over the struggling Pakistani batter. While some fans offer condolences and hoped for a quick form recovery, other fans, particularly Indians, shared hilarious memes at the expense of the 31-year-old. Here is a look at some of the fans reacting to Azam’s latest failure with the bat this BBL 2025-26 season.

BBL 2025-26 a nightmare tour for Babar

With his latest failure, Babar Azam has now aggregated 202 runs in 10 innings of the BBL 2025-26 season at an average of just 25.25 and a strike rate of 104.12. The Pakistani cricketer has managed to clear the fence just three times throughout the tournament. Interestingly, the seasoned pro has still crafted two half-centuries in the process, albeit at a struggling pace.

Despite his repeated struggles, Babar reportedly got furious at opening partner Steve Smith a few days ago after the latter denied him a single in an earlier BBL game. While Smith bludgeoned 32 runs off the subsequent over, Babar failed to add a run as he got trapped in front by Sydney Thunder fast bowler Nathan McAndrew for 47.

Perth Scorchers tower over Sydney Sixers in qualifier

Nonetheless, after the dismissal of Babar Azam, number three Josh Phillipe and captain Moises Henriques also failed to lead Sydney Sixers’ charge in the run-chase. The Sixers slipped to a troublesome 23-3 at the end of the first four overs, with Cooper Connolly and Mahli Beardman inflicting the most damage from the Scorchers end.

Earlier in the game, Perth Scorchers batted first and charted 147-9 in 20 overs. Opening batter Finn Allen top-scored in the innings with a fiery 49-run knock from just 30 balls with two fours and four huge sixes. For the Sixers, legendary fast bowler Mitchell Starc and Ben Dwarshuis as well as Jack Edwards all picked up two wickets each in the innings.
