The Pakistan government has allowed the Pakistan cricket team to participate in the upcoming 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. However, the ‘Men in Green’ have been barred to face arch-rivals India in their Group A match in light of the prevailing geo-political tensions between the two countries.

The Pakistan government also took this stand in a bid to support the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) amidst their exclusion from the tournament.

As one can expect, the explosive announcement from Pakistan sparked a wave of some strong as well as hilarious reactions on social media.

Indian fans troll Pakistan for “running away” from India match

Indian cricket fans have expressed their strong reactions over Pakistan government’s sudden announcement of boycotting their 2026 T20 World Cup match against India. Several of them took to social media shortly after the announcement and shared hilarious memes over the matter.

A legion of fans are also trolling the Pakistan government, claiming that the Pakistan cricket team “ran away” instead of losing yet another match to an in-form Indian unit.

Fans react to Pakistan government’s boycott call of India match:

Why did Pakistan government boycotted India match at T20 World Cup 2026?

The Pakistan government and the PCB boycotted the India vs Pakistan match at the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup as part of their ongoing protests against the Indian government and the BCCI.

The age-old geo-political tensions between the two countries took a turn for the worse last year after a deadly terrorist attack that took place in Pahalgam which resulted in the lives of 26 Indians. While the two nations subsequently engaged in a four-day cross-border conflict in May, cricket also got caught in the crossfire with India and Pakistan players refusing to interact with each other at the 2025 Asia Cup in the UAE.

The PCB also backed Bangladesh when the BCB and the Bangladesh government refused to send the Bangladesh team to India for their 2026 T20 World Cup matches in the aftermath of Mustafizur Rahman’s IPL 2026 exclusion.

Since BCB remained adamant in playing their matches in Sri Lanka instead, the ICC replaced the Bangladesh team with Scotland at the showpiece event.

What will happen with Pakistan’s boycott of India match?

If Pakistan government’s boycott call stays and the team refuse to face India at the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, the ‘Men in Blue’ will receive the two points on count of Pakistan’s forfeiture.

It is worth noting that Pakistan is already playing their T20 World Cup matches in Sri Lanka as they refused to travel to India citing “security concerns”. As of now, the Pakistan team is slated to face Netherlands and USA, both at the SSC Cricket Ground in Colombo on February 7 and February 10 respectively.

The ICC and the BCCI are yet to respond to Pakistan government’s explosive call of forfeiting the match against India, which is usually regarded as the “big-ticket” match of ICC tournaments.
