After the T20I series, New Zealand and India will resume their rivalry in the ODI series, with the first game scheduled to be held on Wednesday, November 4. The match will be held at Eden Park in Auckland at 7:30 AM IST.

New Zealand will look for redemption after losing the T20I series by 2-3. While they gained winning momentum in the final two games, the overall results were quite disappointing.

But in the ODI leg, things will be different for New Zealand with several experienced stars gracing the lineup. Still, the real challenge for the Kiwis will be to form a strong playing XI that can compete with India in all situations.

On that note, let’s explore the predicted playing XI of New Zealand vs India for the 1st ODI.

Top Order - Will Young, Tim Seifert, Daryl Mitchell

Will Young, with over 2000 ODI runs in 63 games, is likely to open the innings for New Zealand in the first game against India. However, the main selection headache for the Kiwis is to decide the second opener.

Devon Conway is ruled out due to concussion, while Rachin Ravindra and Mark Chapman are out due to injuries. Hence, New Zealand is likely to go with Tim Seifert over Henry Nicholls on the basis of recent form.

Seifert scored 93 runs in the last T20I against India while Henry is grinding hard in domestic cricket. But for the first ODI, Tim is most likely to get a chance.

At no. 3, Daryl Mitchell will walk out to bat. He scored 176 runs in the T20I series and, overall, in 6 ODIs played this year, Daryl has accumulated 473 runs with a strike rate of 97, including 2 hundreds.

Middle Order - Glenn Phillips, Tom Latham, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner

In the middle order, New Zealand’s greatest strength is Glenn Phillips. He showcased his muscle in the 4th T20I, scoring a century. Overall in the 5-game T20I series, he hammered 341 runs at a strike rate of 185.

Hence, the Kiwis will hope and pray that Phillips is able to translate his T20I success in the ODI leg as well. After Glenn, Tom Latham is another experienced batter who can anchor New Zealand’s innings.

In the last ODI series against the West Indies, Latham scored a half-century and got a few good starts as well. Michael Bracewell, meanwhile, will likely walk out to bat at no. 6.

He has had a decent ODI career with 1042 runs in 41 innings at 107.53 strike rate. And with the ball, Bracewell has picked up 46 wickets as well.

To add more strength to the lower middle order, captain Mitchel Santner will lead from the front. He had a successful T20I series against India as a bowler, picking up 9 wickets. But he needs more consistency as a batter.

Bowlers - Nathan Smith, Kyle Jamieson, Blair Tickner, Jacob Duffy

New Zealand is likely to go with a pace-heavy lineup featuring Nathan Smith and Kyle Jamieson. Smith has picked up 6 wickets in 7 ODIs played this year.

On the other hand, Jamieson has 30 ODI wickets to his name in a 23-game career. But his height and condition advantage will be useful for New Zealand in the first ODI against India.

Two leading pacers for New Zealand will be Blair Tickner and Jacob Duffy, as Matt Henry is uncertain following a collision with Conway. Tickner picked up 4 wickets in the last ODI series against Bangladesh and 2 wickets in the one T20I he played against India.

Jacob Duffy, on the other hand, had picked up 4 wickets in his last ODI assignment, while against India in the T20I leg, he got 5 wickets. So overall, he is a strong option for New Zealand to add strength to the pace attack.
