England will start their tri-series campaign against the hosts, Pakistan, on Tuesday. The Three Lions, under Harry Brook has been excellent, and they recently defeated India, and Sri Lanka at home.

They will be up against a strong Pakistan side who are oozing with confidence after beating Sri Lanka in the opening contest. Ahead of the second match, we take a look at England’s predicted playing XI for the Pakistan clash.

Openers and top order: Tom Banton, Ben Duckett, Joe Root

Tom Banton did well in the home ODI series against Sri Lanka, and the batter has been oozing with confidence. The upcoming match against Pakistan will further provide him a chance to cement his place as an opener.

Ben Duckett has been in and out of the ODI setup, and with no Jacob Bethell in the lineup, the southpaw will hope he can grab the opportunity against the Pakistan attack on a relatively flat wicket.

Joe Root will bat at number 3 in the match against Pakistan. Against a quality Pakistan attack, England would need their most experienced player to hold the fort at one end, while the rest of the batting can revolve around him.

Middle order and all-rounders: Harry Brook(c), Jordan Cox, Will Jacks, Sam Curran, Jamie Overton

England captain Harry Brook loves to play against Pakistan, and the Pakistan bowling attack would love to see him back early. However, if he stays for 10 overs, Brook can do a lot of damage with the bat.

With Jos Buttler ruled out, Jordan Cox can come into the middle order, and if needed, the hard-hitting batter can also keep the gloves against Pakistan in the second match.

Will Jacks will provide the all-round depth as he can score runs at a rapid pace, and can also chip in with quality overs of spin-bowling.

He will be accompanied by Sam Curran, who is making his return to the team after a groin injury. Alongside Jacks, Curran will be the designated finisher, and he can also bring in variety with his left-arm bowling.

One of the best white-ball all-rounders at the moment, Jamie Overton, if required, can pinch in with some lusty blows, and he will easily give 10 wicket-taking overs to England against Pakistan in the second ODI.

Bowling: Adil Rashid, Gus Atkinson, Josh Tongue

The leader of the English spin department, Adil Rashid, has been one of the best spinners in the world in the last 10 years, and against the Pakistan batters, England would hope he can deliver the goods in the middle overs.

One of the two main pacers in the playing XI, Gus Atkinson has done well in red-ball cricket, and he has a golden opportunity to grab a spot in the ODIs in Jofra Archer’s absence.

Josh Tongue is likely going to be the other pacer in the playing XI for England. He brings raw pace that could trouble the Pakistan batters.
