In a big blow to Adelaide Strikers, Darcie Brown is set to miss the entire Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2026 season. The Australian fast bowler continues to struggle with a back injury.

Brown returned from Australia A’s recent tour of India with a disc issue that has hampered her recovery. Despite initial hopes of a mid-season comeback, she remains unable to resume training.

Darcie Brown’s Back Injury Leaves No Time For WBBL 2026 Return

Cricket Australia confirmed on Monday that Darcie Brown is ruled out of WBBL 2026 after failing to recover sufficiently from her back injury. The 23-year-old pacer had initially been expected to return during the second half of the tournament.

“Brown was assessed following her return home from India last month, and following a period of de-loading, her injury has not yet recovered to a point where she is ready to resume training,” Cricket Australia said in a statement on Monday.

With the WBBL 2026 season set to begin on October 29, Brown’s absence presents a significant setback for Adelaide Strikers. The franchise will now have to plan its campaign without the Australian fast bowler.

Darcie Brown Retains Champions Trophy Hopes Despite Injury Setback

Despite missing the entire WBBL 2026, Darcie Brown could still feature in Australia’s plans for the Women’s Champions Trophy 2027 in India. Australian selector Shawn Flegler believes the fast bowler could remain in contention for the marquee ICC event in February.

Brown has claimed 29 wickets in her ODI career but has struggled for consistency in the format recently. Since January 2025, she has taken just five wickets in nine ODIs at an average of 59.60.

Her last ODI appearance for Australia came during the series against the West Indies in April. Brown subsequently toured India with Australia A, taking three wickets in her most recent one-day outing, before returning home with a back issue.
