Salman Ali Agha, the Pakistan batter, clarified that his gesture after scoring a century against Sri Lanka in the opening match of the tri-nation series was not disrespectful to anyone but was for his son.
Pakistan were in a spot of bother in the opening match against the fellow Asian side, and the team was sinking before Salman Agha resurrected their sinking ship with his fastest ODI century to date. After his century, he made a gesture towards the dressing room, but Salman Agha has now explained what it meant.
Salman Agha dedicates century celebration to his son
During the post-match media conference, the Pakistan all-rounder was asked about the meaning of his celebration. The centurion revealed that the gesture was not to prove a point to anyone; rather, it was for his son, who watches cricket and celebrates in the same manner.
“I don’t have enough time to message someone or prove someone wrong. I love my cricket, I love batting and I like playing for Pakistan. That was only celebration and my little son watches TV like this, so the [celebration] was for him,” Agha explained.
Salman Agha calls for greater recognition to domestic cricket
Apart from talking about his celebration, Salman Agha also called for greater recognition for domestic cricket. He felt that people believe scoring runs in domestic cricket is easy, but in reality, it requires a lot of skill.
“I think we don’t give enough respect to our domestic cricket. The conditions there are not that easy and scoring runs is not an easy job. Otherwise, everyone would go there and score runs,” he said.
Salman Ali Agha makes a grand comeback after getting dropped from T20Is
Last year, the 32-year-old replaced Mohammad Rizwan as the Pakistan T20I captain, and under his guidance, the team managed to reach the Asia Cup final, only to lose against India.
However, after Pakistan crashed out of the T20 World Cup 2026, PCB felt there was a need for a change in leadership as Sahibzada Farhan replaced him as the new T20I captain, and Salman Agha was dropped from the T20I setup.
The player, however, silenced his critics with his bat, as he bailed Pakistan out of a tricky situation in the first ODI and scored a match-winning 107 to help his team win the contest.
