Former Australia batter Michael Hussey is attracting strong interest from teams to join their coaching setup. The 51-year-old, who is serving as CSK’s batting coach, recently got an offer to reunite with Stephen Fleming at England as their batting coach.

The 51-year-old said he's interested in the job and that it would be awkward to be in the England dressing room for next year's Ashes instead of the Aussie dressing room. However, Michael Hussey didn’t rule out interest in England’s coaching job.

Michael Hussey Offered Job By Cricket Australia

In the latest events, a report from CodeSports stated that England Cricket have got a competition from Cricket Australia to avail Michael Hussey’s services. The report stated that Cricket Australia have offered a batting coach role to the 51-year-old to counter the offer from ECB.

The next Ashes series is 8 months away, and Cricket Australia don’t want one of their best coaches to go to a rival team during this crucial Test window. The CodeSports report added that Hussey is impressed by both offers and is weighing both options before making up his mind.

Why Do Cricket Australia Require Michael Hussey’s Services?

Australian cricket team is undergoing an interesting phase. The Pat Cummins-led side are on top of the WTC table with 80 PCT. However, all is not rosy within the Baggy Greens camp. The 2023 WTC winners recently drew a two-match Test series at home against Bangladesh.

The bowlers (Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood) are on song, but the issue lies within the batting order. Jake Weatherald was axed from the team recently, Marnus Labuschagne is struggling for runs. Hence, there are a lot of batting issues that Australia need to sort out, and Michael Hussey would be the perfect man to bring things in control till the Ashes.

England Confident Of Landing Michael Hussey Despite Australia Interest

Notably, England Cricket are confident of penning a deal with Hussey because the 51-year-old previously worked as a batting consultant for England during the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia and helped the Three Lions win the trophy.

Further, Hussey has a great relationship with Stephen Fleming, having worked with him at CSK since 2018.

“Fleming and I obviously get on really well and work a lot together. There is a lot of different things to consider. My short answer is I would not say no to anything really,” Hussey told Fox Sports.

“He has a very good understanding of the game. Very shrewd operator who gets that balance between enjoyment and fun and relationships. He has a great chance to do well. He wants to keep the game moving forward but perhaps not as recklessly as England have ‌been recently," Hussey said praising Stephen Fleming.

It is likely that Hussey might make up his mind in the next few days.
