The much-awaited 10th edition of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 is all set to begin on Friday, June 12, in England. The opening match of the tournament will see hosts England Women take on Sri Lanka Women at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

This year's Women’s T20 World Cup marks a historic moment as 12 teams will participate in the tournament.

Among the participating teams, the Netherlands will make their debut appearance at a Women’s T20 World Cup, while Ireland return to the tournament after missing previous editions. 

The 12 teams competing are: England, India, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, West Indies, Scotland, Ireland and the Netherlands.

The teams participating the in the marquee tournament have been divided into two groups of six teams each:

• Group A - India, Australia, Pakistan, Netherlands, Bangladesh and South Africa
• Group B - England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Ireland and Scotland

Overall, 33 matches will be played during the tournament, including the league stage, semi-finals and final.

The Women's T20 World Cup opening ceremony will feature a special live performance by the full West End cast of the famous musical Wicked. 

Leading the performance will be theatre stars Emma Kingston and Zizi Strallen, who currently play the iconic characters Elphaba and Glinda in the musical.

The performance holds special significance as it celebrates the 20th anniversary of Wicked in the United Kingdom.
