On Friday, June 26, Shreyas Iyer will begin his tenure as India’s T20I captain when the Men in Blue square off against Ireland. The two teams will lock horns for the first of the two-match T20I series in Belfast.

Not only has Shreyas Iyer replaced Suryakumar Yadav as the next India T20I captain, but the right-handed batter is all set to mark his T20I return after three years. His last T20I appearance came against Australia on December 3, 2023.

Shreyas Iyer Posts Cryptic Act On Social Media Ahead Of Captaincy Debut

It has been a long wait for Iyer to earn the selectors' attention and prove his worthiness to lead the national team. Now, a day ahead of arguably the most important moment in his cricketing career, Shreyas Iyer has hogged the headlines for his off-field activities.

On Thursday, Shreyas Iyer updated his Instagram Bio and added a second date of birth. Interestingly, now if a user visits PBKS captain’s Insta profile, it reads, “Second DOB 25.12.2025”. The latest activity has left fans guessing, and suddenly the conversation has shifted to Iyer’s act rather than the match.

Shreyas Iyer Revisits Fatal Injury In Australia

For the unversed, Shreyas Iyer has revisited the fatal injury he suffered in Australia during India’s tour Down Under in November 2025. For those unaware, India visited Australia for a three-match ODI series, and Iyer picked up a fatal injury in the 3rd ODI.

It was the 3rd ODI when Iyer suffered a spleen injury while taking a catch. The right-handed batter was in pain and had to be quickly taken off the field. Notably, Iyer fainted in the dressing room and was taken to the hospital.

The injury turned out to be more serious than thought, and the 31-year-old was also admitted to the ICU. Iyer eventually underwent surgery, and it took him a long time to recover from that incident.

What Is The Significance Of 25/12/2025 D.OB By Shreyas Iyer?

Iyer got injured on 25th October 2025, but his new Insta bio read ‘D.O.B - 25/12/2025’, which is two months after he suffered the fatal injury. Therefore, to end the curiosity, 25th December 2025 was the date when Shreyas Iyer picked up the bat again for the first time since the injury.

Similar to Rishabh Pant, who labels his post-accident journey as his ‘second life’, Iyer too looks at his journey in a similar manner. It was a fatal and rare injury, but Iyer battled it and made it to the top, becoming India captain in less than a year.

Since his injury return, Shreyas Iyer played two matches in Vijay Hazare Trophy and made his India return with New Zealand series in the ODIs. Following that, the right-handed batter played IPL 2026 where he scored 498 runs in 13 innings.
