Under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, India became the first team in the world to win the T20 World Cup at home. Yet the BCCI asked him to make way for others for the next assignments, which were India's tours of Ireland and England.

In his place, Shreyas Iyer, who was not even in the mix of things for a while, took charge as India’s T20I captain. In fact, he took his batting position as well in India’s playing XI.

Even though Suryakumar, fondly known as SKY, spoke about Shreyas moments after the BCCI made him T20I captain, he never shared his feelings about what he had gone through during the tough days.

Suryakumar Yadav Gets Candid On India’s T20I Snub

During a show called Baith & Bol in association with CREX, Suryakumar Yadav did not shy away from sharing his feelings on how he immediately thought about India’s T20I snub while having a conversation with Aakash Chopra.

There, SKY told Chopra he was literally in shock after the BCCI conveyed their decision to them. However, at the same time, he mentioned that he did not react angrily to it or have a discussion with them.

He thought only about what India had achieved under his captaincy, yet the BCCI told him not to keep his place.

"So I don't think, why did you make this? I was a little disappointed. Because we haven't lost a single bilateral series in two years. You have won the World Cup & Asia Cup. Then you want the same things going forward, because when everything goes well, So, Why? What change did it bring?" SKY told Chopra.

"That's what is going through im my mind. I am sitting at home thinking about this for a month and a half. I was like, how is this possible? We just won the World Cup.

"Before the team was announced, they called me and said, ' I think it's time to move on. I didn't react, because it's not my fault; that's not how Suryakumar Yadav has always been. Whoever took the call must have thought. This is better for the team going forward," he added.

Did BCCI Take The Right Call By Dropping SKY From India’s T20I Squad?

It was debatable whether SKY's being dropped from India’s T20I squad was the right call by the BCCI. His overall T20I average is 36.35 after 107 T20I innings, and he also has a strike rate over 160 while making 3272 runs for the country.

However, he had not been having a good time with the bat in T20Is in recent years until he was dropped.

Even during the T20 World Cup 2026, he had only one significant knock, an unbeaten 49-ball 82 against the USA. Still, the BCCI had a chance to end the route with Suryakumar Yadav in a more professional way.
