With IPL 2026 fast approaching, the excitement around the tournament is already building, as franchises roll out their promotional campaigns in full flow. Defending champions RCB, fresh off their historic title triumph last year, have also joined in with engaging and attention-grabbing social media content for fans of the Indian T20 carnival.

The franchise recently dropped a near minute-long pre-season video of none other than its former captain and all-time batting great Virat Kohli. In a short hilarious video, the legendary Indian batter can be seen trapped alone in an elevator, where he amusingly keeps himself entertained by shadow batting.

Virat Kohli shadow bats and ‘celebrates’ a century in an empty elevator

The RCB franchise recently released a mock video featuring Virat Kohli, where the legendary batter is seen trapped inside an empty elevator, still in his team jersey.

Making the most of the situation, the 37-year-old checks himself out in the mirror, loosens up with a bit of stretching, and even sneaks in a quick workout. He then amuses himself with some shadow batting and goes on to celebrate an ‘imaginary century’, only to suddenly realize that the elevator’s CCTV camera has been on the whole time.

Taking to their social media accounts on Saturday, March 21; the RCB wrote “VK18 is all of us inside an empty elevator” in the caption of their post.

Virat Kohli to enter IPL 2026 as a ‘defending champion’

Unlike previous IPL seasons, Virat Kohli will enter IPL 2026 as a ‘defending champion’ for the RCB franchise for the first time in his 19-year-old career. Under the leadership of captain Rajat Patidar, RCB pipped Punjab Kings in a hard-fought final last year at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.

The legendary batter himself scored a crucial 43 off 35 balls on the big day, before bowlers restricted Punjab Kings within six runs of their target. Overall, Kohli aggregated 657 runs in just 15 innings of the tournament at a prolific average of 54.75 and with an astonishing strike rate of 144.71.

Kohli returns after New Zealand and South Africa series success

Virat Kohli will also be making his return to competitive cricket after a gap of over two months through the upcoming IPL 2026 season. The 37-year-old recently featured in India’s three-match ODI series against New Zealand back in January, charting 240 runs in three innings with a century and a cracking 93 in Indore and Vadodara respectively.

The cricketer also mounted over 300 runs in three ODI innings against South Africa with two hundreds and a match-winning 65*. Overall, in his last nine innings in competitive cricket, Kohli has listed eight scores of 50 or more, and has converted four of them into centuries.

As per the IPL 2026 schedule as unveiled by the BCCI earlier this month, the RCB franchise will be facing SRH in the opening match of the tournament on March 28 in Bengaluru.
