The two cricketers exchanged some words with each other, prompting even Mumbai Indians senior pro Suryakumar Yadav to have a chat with the Englishman.

Tilak Varma stirs up a fiery verbal exchange with CSK’s Jamie Overton

England-based fast bowler Jamie Overton was employed by CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad to bowl the tenth over of the Mumbai Indians innings. In the final ball of his opening over, the speedster sent down a slower off-cutter to Tilak Varma, who in turn nudged the ball towards the deep midwicket for a run.

Varma also wanted a second run but was rightfully sent back by his senior partner Suryakumar Yadav.

As Overton was making his way back to the bowling crease, Tilak yelled at the fast bowler for bowling even at a time when CSK fielders were moving.

Complaining of getting distracted with the moving fielders, the Mumbai Indians batter can be heard shouting “I can see the fielder moving, He was there at the Halfways when you were about to bowl.”

Jamie Overton also responded back to Tilak Varma, thus livening up the Wankhede Stadium crowd in Mumbai.

It is worth noting that live broadcast confirmed that a certain CSK fielder was indeed moving when Overton was about to bowl, which seemingly distracted the star middle-order batter.

Tilak Varma, on the other hand, faced 29 deliveries in the innings to score just 37 before getting knocked over by ace spinner Akeal Hosein.

To start off, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to field first at the Wankhede Stadium. In response, the CSK franchise mounted 207-6 in 20 overs, with blistering opener Sanju Samson whacking 101* off just 54 balls to chart his second century of the IPL 2026 season.

Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and young Dewald Brevis also slapped quick 20s, and Jamie Overton chipped in with a seven-ball 15 at the death.

Chasing 208, Mumbai Indians folded up for just 104 in 19 overs. Suryakumar Yadav (35 off 30) and Tilak Varma (37 off 29) did the bulk of the scoring as the two cricketers themselves compounded 72 runs. None of the other Mumbai Indians batter managed to go past the single-digit mark, with CSK’s Akeal Hosein (4-17) making the most of the hosts’ downfall.
