It was a spicy affair at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on February 15 when India and Pakistan met for their group stage clash in the T20 World Cup 2026. There was high anticipation after India’s thrilling Asia Cup 2025 final win, and Suryakumar Yadav was seen giving a solid advice during the team huddle before the Indian cricket team took the field.
India posted a total of 175 at the end of 20 overs after batting first and, in response, neutralised Pakistan's threat early by dismissing the openers and top order inside the powerplay. The high-voltage clash demanded intense emotions on the field, yet leader Suryakumar Yadav kept the verbal and external heat in check.
Suryakumar Yadav Led India's Win Against Pakistan
The match saw several tense moments, including Hardik Pandya's no-look celebration after dismissing Sahibzada Farhan, which went viral. While some felt it could have triggered a reaction from the Pakistan players, no visible on-field spat took place between the two sides.
The backdrop of the heated rivalry intensified after Pakistan had boycotted the India match on February 1 on their official social media handle. Following a tripartite arrangement between the International Cricket Council, Pakistan Cricket Board, and Bangladesh Cricket Board, the match eventually resumed, with $174 million reportedly at stake.
Nevertheless, the game highlighted how the Indian players and their captain maintained the spirit of cricket by issuing a firm directive to the team.
SKY Asks Players Not To 'Engage' On Field
Suryakumar Yadav lost the toss as Pakistan opted to field. During the group huddle before India’s innings, he was caught on camera delivering a clear message to his teammates, stressing that no one should indulge in any talks or instigations against Pakistan players on the field.
Suryakumar Yadav said, "Keep running between the overs. Kisi se kuch bolna nahi hai. Don't say anything to anyone. We have to play good cricket. We will win this game through good skill." This underlined the temperament and mindset heading into the match, which also saw Ishan Kishan shine with a 40-ball 77.
India Flay Pakistan With Both The Bat And The Ball
There was no instigation from either team, and the match proceeded smoothly without interruption. Of course, there was no handshake between the captains or exchange of pleasantries after the match ended between the two nations.
Yet, the contest was purely entertaining. Suryakumar Yadav himself scored 32 off 29 balls, which, along with late contributions from Rinku Singh and Shivam Dube, helped India post a solid total.
Pakistan, on the other hand, failed to keep up with the required run rate despite Usman Khan’s effort to steady the chase. Varun Chakaravarthy, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya picked up two wickets each to seal Pakistan's fate, leaving them at risk of missing out on the Super 8 stage if they lose their match against Namibia on February 18.
